activities and attractions in Venice Gulf Coast Central
Venice, Florida is situated half-way between Tampa and Fort Myers, Florida. Both are a one-hour drive. Orlando, Florida is a two-hour drive. Venice is a quaint, small-town built primarily in Mediterranean style with a boulevard shaded by giant live oak trees that leads to Venice Municipal Beach and Jetty. There is a coral reef one-quarter mile offshore.
Other beaches include Casperson Beach which is the longest beach in Sarasota County. This beach has been left in its natural state and is uncultivated and secluded.
Brohard Paw Park, located at 1600 Harbor Drive is truly a dog-lovers park with dog drinking fountains, showers for dogs, fire hydrants and posts. The park is adjacent to the only beach area where dogs are allowed to run free.
South Venice Beach is a pristine, private beach approximately 7 miles long and can only be reached by ferry or boat. The ferry holds 18 passengers and leaves the dock every 1/2 hour. There is a small fee for non-residents but well worth the trip.
Shamrock Park serves as a trail-head for the Venetian Intracoastal Waterway Trail. The 10 mile trail along the waterway offers visitors the opportunity to walk, bike, or roller blade from Shamrock Park to downtown Venice, the historic train station and beautiful Caspersen Beach. The park is free. All beaches and parks mentioned above are 5-10 minutes from our Pomelo Drive home.
