Milfiori, Historic Country Retreat in Murphys

Milfiori is a beautifully restored farmhouse built in the mid 1800's.  It is surrounded by serene Provence-like gardens containing century old roses.  The home is spacious and artfully decorated with many period pieces.  It is like stepping back in time from the moment you cross the threshold.

The available accomodation at Milfiori comprises three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms.  Each bedroom is completely unique (one has a claw foot tub en-suite) and melds beautifully with the period of the home.  There is a quiet sitting room upstairs, a modern kitchen and a large dining room/sun room overlooking the garden.

Adjacent to the main house is a stone building with heavy metal doors.  In decades past this building served as the bank as well as the village store.  The gun port where the guard stood watch while the strong box was being unloaded from the stage coach can still be seen.

There is a charming caretaker's cotage on the property and a beautiful old barn.  The fields and slopes beyond this show signs of early gold excavation.

Life at Milfiori is restful and unhurried.  Stroll the gardens  (the name means a thousand flowers) or just sit on the porch, read a book and listen to the birds sing. 

The house has a modern kitchen, fully stocked with all the pots and pans you need to prepare a gourmet meal.  It has a gas stove, dishwasher and full-size refrigerator.  The house has air conditioning for your comfort in the summer, forced heat in the winter.  To add to the cozy feeling, there is a gas stove in both the dining room and living room.  Each bedroom has a queen sized bed and either a full or half bath. If you must keep in contact, there is internet connection, cable TV and a DVD player.

The house is in the heart of Calaveras County's wine growing region.  It is less than 2 miles from the quaint town of Murphys and 18 tasting rooms.  Stop in at any of the unique wineries to meet the owners and learn about their wines.  Each has it's own personality and is well worth the visit.

Murphys is close to several golf courses, lakes and skiing at Bear Valley.  There is river rafting, hiking, fishing and summer concerts.

Rates are $250.00/night with a two night minimum.  Holidays require a 3 night minimum.  Sunday through Thursday is $200.00 (Holidays excluded).  A $250.00 deposit is required to hold the reservation.  Deposit will be refunded after departure if there is no damage.  There is a $75.00 non-refundable cleaning fee.  Rates do not include hotel tax.
