vacation rental description
A traditional La Paz home over a hundred years old, Casa Abuelita has recently been given an exquisite renovation that leaves the detail and beauty of an old home while bringing you 21st Century amenities and comforts. The original doors, cleaned and waxed, still hang beneath the wood beams and corrugated roof as they have for decades, but now they are accompanied by a layer of foam insulation and waterproofing to allow for comfortable nights even in the heat of summer. The street side rooms that once served as space for typing classes given by Senora Julieta have been remodeled and are now finely designed bathrooms that also act as buffers from the street noise. Inside the house you will find an unexpected peace and serenity especially in the central garden where an old well still reaches down into La Paz aquifer. Casa Abuelita lies in the heart of old La Paz, one block off the Malecon ( the boardwalk that lines the bay), and one block from the Cathedral and the central plaza. La Paz’s finest restaurants are within a block or two of the house. Within a short walk there are two traditional Mercados where you can buy fresh fish, meats and vegetables. Casa Abuelita is the perfect base to explore Baja California Sur’s only true Mexican city set like a pearl in the crown of the Bay of La Paz. Your days can be spent wandering the shops and the markets, strolling the Malecon or heading to the islands for scuba diving, snorkeling, or swimming with the sea lions. The La Paz area also offers some of the best fishing for dorado, marlin, sea bass and tuna to be found anywhere in the world. La Paz, the capitol of Baja California Sur, has been until recently overlooked by developers as well as the tourist crowd who have rushed to the Cabo San Lucas/ San Jose corridor. In the last few years several major developments began construction and in the next year or two we will see more condominiums, new homes and golf courses in the area. With a population of more than 250,000 La Paz will no doubt maintain its unique character even as we grow. Casa Abuelita offers a vision of a future for La Paz that strives to maintain the tradition and flavor of this marvelous city and its spectacular sunsets while at the same time embracing a modern, ecologically sensitive world view.
