This was one of the most amazing vacations we have taken in Michigan. Upon arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile and welcoming warmth. The cabin is homey and cute with all provisions necessary. We were able to walk out in water for a mile in amazing clear blue water with no weeds! I could not believe a lake with no weeds! There is a nice sandy area where the kids could play, making sand castles. We were able to build fires in the fire pit, also down by the water, each night. Enjoying s'mores and the amazing sunsets. The lake is huge which allowed us to take the kids tubing and skiing. There are sand bars through out the lake, something good to find out about if you bring your own boat. We would anchor on them for the afternoon and snorkel the reefs.
We cooked dinner most nights and went to a local restaurant a couple times. I believe it was called The Cabin, great food with well known Bloody Marys! They were delicious along with the food! We frequented Nibbles an ice cream shop close by the south shore camp ground. we knew it was going to be good when we pulled up and the line was 15 people long.
All in all we could not have asked for a better family vacation!
Oh! And the fireworks! They were around the lake all weekend.
A neighbor put on a nice amateur show the kids were able to enjoy from our beach.
On the 4th there were professional fireworks on the north shore we watched.
So much fun!

The lake put on their own professional show on the 4th as well.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway

First time stay

We were excited and a little apprehensive to be staying at a cottage for the first time with a 2-1/2 year old. My husband and I had communicated with the owner a few times and felt very comfortable in securing our spot for the week. The cottage was extremely clean and just like the pictures posted. The cottage is just feet from the lake, with a nice ladder that our daughter used to get into the water. There were plenty of dishes, glasses, and pots and pans for our use, which was also great. The only concerns I had were that it did seem quite hot in the cottage for the most part. There was only one fan provided, so, if you are planning to stay when it's muggy, bring some extra fans! I think a few ceiling fans would have been nice.. I also did think that the owners could have been a bit more hospitable. It's not that anyone was out and out rude to us, my husband and I just had the overall feeling that we were bothering the owners in some way. I just didn't get that warm and homey feeling I was expecting. I was not asking for anyone to roll out the red carpet and entertain us or come by every hour to check on us, but, on the few occasions where we had contact with the owner or their family, the mood just seemed a bit cold, which was unfortunate. Also, there are signs warning guests about swimmer's itch in the cottage as well as at the South State Park we went to, which seems to be pretty prevalent in the area. It would have been appreciated to be notified by the owners of this prior to our arrival so that we could take precautions or to just be aware. Luckily, my daughter and I did not get it, but, my husband did (we think from the State Park water). Other than that, our stay was very nice. I would recommend this property to others with the understanding not to expect much in the way of hospitality. I do not think we would personally stay here again, but, what bothers one person might not bother someone else. I just think it's nice to read honest reviews before making a decision on where to stay.
