Vacation Rental Description

Accommodations: Private luxury villa, 5 – 8 Bedrooms, 7 baths,
sleeps up to 16

Note: For big groups, rent our next door sister, Villa Simply
Paradise, to sleep up to 28!

Let our spacious new luxury Villa Playamor pamper you in paradise.
Our 6200 square foot villa is perched on a gentle hillside
overlooking the beautiful mile long Cofresí beach, one of the finest
on the Dominican Republic’s north shore. Playamor is only a 5 minute
walk from the spectacular new Ocean World marine eco-park.

Villa Playamor is designed for couples, small groups or large family
reunions. Gather with friends and family on the large terraces
overlooking the beach and mountains. Enjoy gorgeous sunrises,
sunsets and the constant cooling trade winds or escape to the
privacy of your air-conditioned bedroom and private balcony.
Playamor can sleep 10 adults in private bedrooms with private baths.
The villa also has the capacity to sleep another 6 guests on
convertible beds in other rooms.

Couples can expect an intimate experience with the upper private
terrace being just right for romantic dinners and cuddling in the
moonlight. Your discrete staff will afford you all the privacy you
desire. Your private walled pool is perfect for a midnight skinny
dip.

Small groups and large families will appreciate the 2 large family
rooms, porches and terraces. Our dining table normally seats 12, but
we can add to accommodate 16 hungry guests, The porches can also be
set up for informal dining. But, if your family is like ours and you
would like a little privacy from time to time, you will also
appreciate the personal space and quiet time afforded by the several
smaller living areas as well as your large bedroom, private bathroom
and balcony.

Relax on the porches, catch rays poolside, play and swim at the
beach, or participate in one of the many north shore tours and
attractions that can be arranged for you by our American manager.
When you are ready, our housekeeper will serve you her fresh pina
coladas and tasty snacks poolside or on the porch, then she will
pamper your palates with a dinner that you have chosen from her
extensive culinary repertoire. If you decide to eat out, there are a
number of excellent restaurants within a short walk or ride from
your villa.

Your kids will love the beach and the pool but when it is time to
come in out of the sun they will enjoy the ping-pong table, video
games and DVDs that we have provided.

For our handicapped guests, Playamor was designed with your special
needs in mind. The entire main floor and the pool area is wheelchair
accessible. Your private bath is designed to allow wheelchair access
as well. If you need special assistance, our staff can arrange to
have someone available as needed. And should you need medical care,
there is a 24hour medical clinic only a few hundred yards from your
front door.

Playamor shares beautiful Cofresí Beach with two world class resorts
and the new marine eco-park, Ocean World. The coral sand is cool on
the feet and soft to the touch. There is ample shade provided by
swaying palms and lush sea grapes for those who have had enough sun
but still want to enjoy the atmosphere. On one end of the mile long
beach are rocks and coral that invite snorkelers. There are usually
breakers for body surfing in some areas but then the rest is just
right for wading. There are no rip tides, no dangerous under tows
and no jelly fish at Cofresí. The only sharks that you will see are
in the shark habitat at Ocean World. Quaint Dominican souvenir
kiosks are set along the beach area but you will not be hassled by
hawkers on the beach itself, that is not allowed. Beach chairs and
water toys are available at stands up and down the beach.

For exciting night life, the casinos and Caribbean discos in Puerto
Plata provide an electric atmosphere. Hit the clubs to dance the
night away to the beat of salsa and the meringue, or try your luck
at one of the casinos. Our favorite night life, however, is to sit
on the balcony and enjoy the millions of stars visible above the
rollers on the ocean.

For our golfing friends, you are not left short changed. Some of the
Caribbean’s best courses are in the Dominican Republic. A fifteen
minute drive will put you on the beautiful courses at Playa Dorado,
and a hour long drive through the beautiful Dominican countryside
will put you on the Robert Trent Jones course at Playa Grande. There
will be no fighting for tee times, our staff will make all the
arrangements for you.

Snorkelers and divers will find plenty in the DR to entertain them.
When the wind is right, the snorkeling at Cofresi offers beautiful
coral, rocks and tropical fish. There are also many other areas a
short drive or short boat trip away. North shore diving trips to
reefs and wrecks can also be arranged by our staff.

Although the Dominican Republic is not yet known as a shoppers’
paradise, you will find lots to take home. Locally produced rums and
famous cigars are favorites as are the bright Caribbean paintings.
The DR is the only place in the world that the gem stone larimar is
found and one of the few places in the world that mines amber. These
jewels are readily available as are others from jewelers in Puerto
Plata.

The casual Dominican life-style fits perfectly with a relaxed
vacation. But for those who insist on bringing work with them, Inter
Net access and a complete business center is available a short walk
away.

Vacation Rental Amenities

Nelly, our cook and housekeeper is a native of Puerto Plata. She is
a superb cook and will also clean daily. For larger groups, an
assistant housekeeper will be provided at no extra charge. A cell
phone is provided for the villa which makes it easy and affordable
to tell those back home about the fantastic time you are having.
Cable TV, VCR/DVD, CD sound system, video game system, full kitchen
with utensils, gas barbecue grill, and all linens are provided. We
also have a collection of DVDs, video games, and paperbacks for you
to use while at Playamor.

Playamor is set up with 5 private bedrooms, each with a full private
bath. We have 3 other rooms with either twin daybeds or twin
mattress portables, which can be set up to increase sleeping
accommodations. There are an additional 2 half bathrooms, one off
the dining room and one for the pool.

One of our greatest assets is the prompt availability of our
managers, Lou Auletta and his assistant Gabino, who live nearby.
They are available to help with any problems that may arise. We also
have our tri-lingual caretaker, Kendy, who lives in separate
quarters on the property. He is also available to help with any
problems you might encounter.

Activities and Attractions

Activities: The beach is only a few hundred yards from our pool.
Swimming, body surfing, sea kayaking, jet skis, and chair rentals
are available on the beach. For the more skilled, world class wind
surfing, parasailing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing and sailing can
be found about a 30 minute drive away. Golfing at some of the
Caribbean’s finest courses is available. Jeep safaris, white water
rafting in the mountains, and tours to museums, the botanical
gardens and historical sites are easily arranged. Discos and casinos
await your night time exploration in nearby Puerto Plata. And, not
to be missed, the new marine eco-park Ocean World, where guests can
interact with a variety of marine creatures and of course swim and
play with the dolphins.

Golf Courses

While there are other 9-hole and 18- hole golf courses within a 40-
mile radius of our area, the following are the only ones we feel are
worthy of consideration when time is limited and cost is a factor.

Costambar, the community next door to Playa Cofresi, has a nine-hole
golf course called “Los Mangos”. It is approximately 2,500 yards
long, par 32. In the past it has not been well maintained. It is a
narrow golf course built on gently rolling terrain. Caddies are
available. Nice course to take the kids if they’re learning the
game but we’re inclined to say experienced players should pass on
this one. In December 2004 the course was in poor condition, so
check before planning to play there.

Playa Dorada, about 6 miles from Playa Cofresi, has a Robert Trent
Jones golf course, pro shop, club house with bar and limited menu,
and driving range that is lit for evening practice.

The golf course measures 6,300 yards for men and 5,400 yards for
women. It is kept in fair condition and while it is wide open,
there are enough water holes and doglegs to keep it interesting.
Tourists are welcome and tee-off times are not necessary.

Greens fees are about $65 US. An electric cart costs $15 US, but
each cart must take a caddie. If you are going to walk you must
play in the afternoon and you are required to have your own caddie.
Caddies do not carry double unless no other caddies are available.
The caddie fee is about $10 US excluding any tip. Most caddies speak
enough English to communicate. Golf clubs are available to rent. Tee
off times start around 7 AM and end around 3-4 PM depending upon the
season..

Playa Grande, about 40 miles away, has what those in the know
consider the Caribbean’s best golf course, surpassing the well-
known “Teeth of the Dog” course at La Romana. It is said that Robert
Trent Jones cried when he was awarded the job of designing Playa
Grande. You may, too. With 11 dramatic ocean-side holes and
incredible views of the azure sea from the rest, if the scenery
doesn’t get you, your ball replacement costs will.

Opened in 1997, it was one of Trent Jones last designs. Though he
never saw the exquisite result, his signature is everywhere, from
the sprawling tee boxes to the large, sloping greens. From the tips
the course plays 6,852 yards and requires intimidating carries over
craggy gulches on six holes. Perched on 100-foot cliffs on the
island’s north coast, this course is the Caribbean’s best-kept
secret and will be an unforgettable experience. Fees are higher
here than at Playa Dorado. But it is worth it. Reservations can be
made by calling 582-0860, ext. 27 or 582-3302, but often you don’t
get off at the reserved time.

Snorkeling off the beaches

When the Atlantic swell is calm, snorkeling off the far end of
Cofresi, aound the rocks, can be interesting. There are usually lots
of fish to see.

Although everyone talks about snorkeling at Sosua Bay, we have found
that the area is heavily silted and not very good. A closer and
better trip would be to take the family and head to our neighboring
community, Costambar, for shelling and snorkeling off the beach.
Theirs is a wide beach with lots of coral reefs; one about midway is
considered the best spot for snorkeling. Chaise lounges can be
rented and there are several beach shacks where you can enjoy a
delicious light lunch. The favorite place to eat on the beach is
Thon’s. It’s a blue shack near the mid point of the beach.

Fun City Action Park

Hours of fun for young and old alike. This popular Go-Kart racing
park is about 7 miles east from Playa Cofresi, and less than a mile
east of the entrance to Playa Dorado. Visitors can test their
driving skills on 4 different tracks. The fastest, “The Cyclone”, is
325 meters long. A popular attraction for the experienced drivers
is “The Sprint” with cars on a smooth, oval 500m track. With 450
meters, “The Grand Prix” is the longest track geared toward family
racing. Children from approximately 5 years of age can drive
themselves and gain driving experience. The “bumper” cars are fun
for all ages.

The big favorite of the children is “Kiddieland”, one of the biggest
playgrounds in Puerto Plata. Refreshment stands sell ice cream and
beverages. Modern rest rooms, and comfortable benches for relaxing
add to a pleasant outing while the kids are having a ball. The
entrance for Fun City is free.

Discos and Night life

There are numerous discos and night clubs in the Puerto Plata area
where you can dance the night away and enjoy a social evening.
Rancho Tipico is a very popular disco, on the highway less than a
mile from Cofresi, that has been popular with our guests. Other
discos are located in Puerto Plata and in the Playa Dorado resort.
Check with Gabino Binet, our assistant manager or with Rochelle’s
assistant Gustavo for updates on the most popular night spots.

Day trips

If you’re in the mood for some exploring, without venturing very
far, consider a day trip to Sosua (45 minute drive) or to Cabarete
(about an hour away). Both are very colorful destinations, but many
consider Cabarete to be better. This is the Windsurfing Capital of
the Caribbean and the north coast highway is Cabarete’s main street.
There are numerous restaurants right on the beach, lots of colorful
shops, and of course all manner of wind surfing and parasailing.
This is a good destination for families.
