Charming, secluded Log Cabin and private pond in New Preston

Perfect Seclusion......but not isolation!

We had a beautiful, tranquil, stress-free and romantic time at this genuinely rustic and charming cottage. The cottage, while private and secluded, is situated close to a wonderful village, with excellent food markets, antique shops and a fantastic local wine shop a short drive away. A car is a must and you can be at the local residents-only lake in about 5 minutes if you feel the urge to leave the environs of the cabin at all! The cabin itself is the real deal - by that I mean it is not a newly constructed faux-cabin with every mod-con included. If you are looking for that we suggest a resort. The owners have renovated the property to be comfortable and authentic. Its not 5-star but its exceptionally homely. The real star internal feature is the very, very well equipped kitchen (there is a BBQ outside too)which enabled us to cook all the locally grown fresh food we bought daily when we didn't want to eat in one one of the several good restaurants we found within a 15-20 minute drive of the cabin. That apart, the Cabin is appointed modestly but is in keeping with the character of the cabin. Hot water was always on demand and the bathroom was nicely finished. The double bedroom is basic but comfortable. For those who don't want to escape entirely from the real world the small TV worked perfectly as did the WiFi.
We spent most afternoons sitting on the swing-seat on the deck watching the numerous types of wildlife that inhabit the site and its surroundings. In particular, anyone with even a passing interest in birds will really enjoy this place (we identified over 10 types thanks to the books in the cabin). We were at the cottage in the height of summer so there were plenty of mosquitos buzzing around. However, we bought repellent and didn't manage to get a single bite between us so its very manageable but requires a degree of diligence.
Ruth, who we dealt with by phone, was always available and accommodating and was flexible to allow is extend our rental by a day, while Phillip met us at the cabin and gave is a good tour and "heads-up" on the do's and don'ts of the property. Both were easy going and welcoming. We are a couple in our 30's but would also recommend the place to families or couples of any age. Those with reduced mobility may struggle getting up the two steps onto the deck though.
In summary, we loved the cottage and will try to return in the future. We left with nothing but the fondest of memories from this unique cottage.
