activities and attractions in Ridgway Colorado
Summer Activities: Ouray and San Miguel counties provide a wide variety of summer and winter activities, including hiking on many outstanding trails in the San Juan mountains and Mt. Sneffels Wilderness area. If you like 4-wheel driving the San Juan mountains have many 4-wheel drive mountain roads to explore. Fishing is available in the Ridgway State park and reservoir as well as in the river below the dam. There are many other mountain streams and lakes that can be visited on day trips from Ridgway. Horseback riding is available out of Ouray and there are two different hot-springs to visit in the valley as well.
Bicycle Riding: Ridgway has a wonderful bike path that starts in town and follows the river for 3 miles to the Ridgway State Park and Reservoir, and you can rent bikes at a great bike shop in town. Mountain biking trails abound in Ouray County and some great trails are within 5 minutes of Elk Meadows.
Golf: Ridgway boasts one of the most beautiful 18-hole golf courses in the state. The Divide Ranch Golf Club golf course is located on Log Hill Mesa, just 15 minutes drive from Ridgway. It is a rolling course surrounded by beautiful pine trees, with views of both San Juan Mountains and the Cimarron Mountains.
Winter Activities: Telluride Ski Resort is only a 50 minute drive from Ridgway and the more extreme ski area of Silverton is about 1 1/4 hrs drive. In addition for the back country skier there is lots of skiing to enjoy on Red Mountain Pass, only a 40 minute drive from Ridgway.
Ouray is world famous for it's ice climbing park, located within walking distance from downtown Ouray.
X-Country Skiing: Located on a mesa just above the town of Ridgway is a nice X-country ski track at Top of the Pines, within 5 miles of Elk Meadows, which is maintained through the winter. This area provides about 10-km of nordic skiing.
