Casa de los Perros in Tambor

Welcome to Casa de los Perros!  The vacation rental was built in 2009 and designed for entertaining and blending the indoor and outdoor living spaces.   The house is just 10 minutes away from the Tambor airport nestled in the hills of Panica.  The vacation rental is perched on 1 1/3 acres with tropical plants and fruit bearing trees.  The house has beautiful mountain and oceanview and just a short 5 minute drive to the beach of playa Tambor.  If you are looking for a tranquillo environment to call home for your visit in Costa Rica this could be your spot. 

Tambor is a sleepy fishing village but still has great amenities including nice restaurants, 2 golf courses one located in Los Delfines and the other at Tango Mar, a small casino at Barcelo resort, beach, on shore and off shore fishing, horseback riding, waterfalls and a close proximity to Montezuma, Mal Pais, and Santa Teresa that’s perfect for day trips.    

The layout of the house…when you enter the front door you are greeted by the living room and a view of the ocean and pool.  The living room has a large patio door that can be opened to provide indoor/outdoor living space with access to the pool. To the left of the living room is a ½ bath, indoor/outdoor bar……great for morning coffee, bird watching and amazing sunrises...also excellent for happy hour, kitchen that includes refrigerator, stove, blender, toaster oven, coffee maker, and an open dining room area with a table that can seat up to 8.   

To the right of the living room you will find the laundry room with a washing machine, full bath with stone shower, and two bedrooms.  One bedroom has a queen size bed and a private patio.  The other bedroom has a trundle bed providing two twin beds. The living room also has a spiral staircase that leads to the master bedroom.  The master bedroom has a queen size bed, full bath, and a private balcony.

The outdoor area has a swimming pool, a fire pit, grill, and plenty of area to explore.  The house includes a CD player with USB direct port, board games, books …but definitely brings your favorite book so you can enjoy a sunset reading and relaxing in the hammock.  We also have fishing poles, Yoga mats, push up bars and a few arm weights, soccer ball and a few toys.   If you are looking to sit on a couch and watch television this is not the place for you since there is no television.....and we like it like that:)

Please note:  There is no smoking inside the house.

House includes:  2200 square feet, 3 bedrooms (2 rooms with queen beds and one room with two single beds, and sofa that folds into a double bed), 2 ½ baths, living room, dining room, laundry room, swimming pool, fire pit, safe, hammock, 9 foot ceilings, concrete countertops with onyx backsplash, indoor/outdoor bar, toaster oven, blender, CD player with USB port,  board games, books, workout equipment, and coffee maker for that amazing Costa Rican coffee!

Living 2 years in Costa Rica we have a few recommendations

Tambor area…Howler Cafe serves a great breakfast and dinner.  The food usually has a little spice to it.  Definitely have some of Mark’s coffee, they roast their own and they have free wifi.   H&B serves up a good ceviche and also has free wifi.   The Bahia Ballena Yacht Club is on the water next to the pier.  It has good shrimp and chicken burritos.

Activity wise in the Tambor area we are huge fans of a day trip to Tortuga Island, beach/pier or offshore fishing, sea kayaking tour, day trip to Curu wildlife refuge, horseback riding, exploring on the beach, or rent a quad for the day.  We can also arrange a massage for you at the house or a private yoga session.  Every Saturday morning there’s an organic vegetable market that starts at 8:00 am in Tambor at the Bahia Ballena Yacht Club.  The fresh fruits and vegetables are amazing in Costa Rica but I must admit that we also like to buy the cinnamon rolls at the market and make some outstanding French toast for breakfast.   Also, you have to checkout the stars at the house.....they are HUGE!      

Day trip to Montezuma. .. hike to the waterfalls is a must. Also, there are daily yoga classes available at Los Mangos and Ylang-Ylang.   Our favorite dinner spot in Montezuma is Cocolores.  If you like garlic the cevechi is outstanding!   If you are having a craving for a bagel or a good muffin or a sweet treat Buen Provecho is a good spot.  Organico has a good vegetarian selection for healthy food. 

Day trip to Santa Teresa…a sunset on the beach at Playa Carmen is amazing. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous and a surf lesson is a great way to spend the day.  If you want some authentic Cuban food with a little flair Café Azucar is another good call and it also has a swimming pool that you can use if you eat at the restaurant.   

Cobano is not worthy of a day trip but it is the hub for the peninsula.  Here you will find the clinic, bank with 2 ATM machines, there is also an ATM machine in Los Defines in Tambor.  There are a couple of grocery stores and specialty stores for fruits and meats.  We are also fans of the “meat guy” for a quick snack…..he’s the man who sells grilled meat sticks on the street corner across  from the bank.

Daily flights from San Jose to Tambor on Sansa Airline.

If you drive take the Paquera Ferry (not the Narjano ferry) out of Puntarenas.

If you rent a vehicle definitely rent one tha has 4 x 4.
