Our Happy Family Gathering

Happy Family 3 (Redding, CA, U.S.A)
Review submitted: September 2, 2011   Date of arrival: July 29, 2011

This was our second stay at the Rose House, again, very enjoyable. We love that we can bring along our elderly dog who is so much part of our family.

Our kids who live near Portland love that the entire family can stay at one place and enjoy the house and the city for our entire stay. Our third stay will be in the Spring.

The Rose House is a charmer, very clean, fully stocked and even has tennis rackets, balls, basketball and toys for tots and pets to use at Mt. Tabor park across the street. We used the backyard for barbecues and just hung out as a family until the wee hours of the night, our dog loved the shade under the old apple tree. We also had several picnics in the park and enjoyed "Music in the Park" on Tuesdays evening. We missed the Adult SoapBox Derby again, that event in later in August.

In the furnished basement there is a ping pong table and we forgot how competitive our kids our, what fun! A perfect place for our family and right on the other side of the park is the Hawthorne District, the vintage shopping and eating al fresco was a big hit.
Portland has many city parks and the Japanese Gardens, Forest Park as well as Mt. Tabor Park are ones to enjoy.

The airport is only 15-20 minutes from door to door and that came in handy for us, we had so many different departures this time, and it all worked out.

We all just want to thank the owner for making this possible for our family, it was hassle free, more than we expected and can't wait until we come up again. The manager is friendly and obliging. It was just a perfect family gathering in a perfect house on the hill. What a view of Mt. Hood, amazing.

Only good memories and good things to say. This is the best way to vacation. Portland is an awesome town!

Beware of terms and odors

Review submitted: August 10, 2011   Date of arrival: July 12, 2011

Rental terms stated the security deposit would be refunded within 3 days. Two instances of this statement communicated to us. We left the house in perfect shape and the property manager promptly notified the owner to refund our deposit. It has been 19 days since we left the house and still waiting for a check from the owner which may never come. Owner is not returning our phone calls and did not wire money as we requested. We are preparing to sue in small claims court for breach of contract. Every room in this house has a funky smell and there is one tiny 20" tv on a barstool with very few cable channels. No, we would never rent this house again or recommend it to anyone. My wife is a wonderful person and it makes me sick that this property owner would take advantage of her in this way.

Owners response: The policy for refund return is 7 days after a stay not 3. After getting their mailing address 5 days after their departure, I explained that I was traveling in Europe and that the check would take approximately 5 to 10 days to arrive. I also explained that the best way to reach me was through email as my cell phone was not active while traveling.

7 days later they emailed me to say it did not arrive and threatened to sue me and report me to the police. Apparently they called numerous times as well leaving threatening voice mails, despite my earlier explanation that I was not using my phone while traveling. I explained again that the letter was coming from France and might take a few days longer than if coming from California. They agreed to wait two more days for the letter.

The next day I emailed them and asked if it had arrived. It still had not arrived and they demanded that I Fedex a new check overnight from abroad if it did not arrive the next day. When I emailed again the next day to see if it had arrived, it still had not and they demanded that I now wire the funds from abroad. I explained that I could not wire the funds as my bank requires my in person signature and that I was still abroad. I told them that I would simply Paypal the money back to them that day as it was the easiest solution.

After using Paypal to refund the deposit, they still threatened to sue me claiming that the 2-3 days it takes the money from Paypal to deposit into their account was a "hardship for their children". They then submitted this review. The whole transaction turned incredibly strange in the span of a week despite my constant, professional and courteous contact with them. Especially considering their first email to me, which was this:

Hi Jennifer,

I wanted to touch base to see if you have mailed our deposit for the Rose house back to us yet. I thought it would be mailed three days after we checked out last Friday.

We had a lovely time in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood and will recommend it to our friends and family.

Thank you,

Laura T...

Wonderful vacation property

kiranicsmom (Aledo, IL)
Review submitted: August 4, 2011   Date of arrival: July 22, 2011

My family rented the Rose House from July 22 to July 29, 2011. We were very happy to find the property had so much room. There are two large bedrooms upstairs and a smaller one on the first floor. My 10 year old daughter thought she was in heaven because she had her own little apartment in the basement, complete with bed, bathroom and a ping pong table. The kitchen was very well stocked with cookware and utensils needed to make your own meals. The backyard was very large and had a wonderful area for kids to play, hanging out, eating outside and grilling out. The house is within walking distance of Mt. Tabor Park. The park has beautiful walking and running trails, picnic areas, a playground and breathtaking views of Mt. Hood. Downtown Portland is just a 10 minute drive away. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone and would stay again!
