The Old Vicarage

The Vicarage is a lovely large cottage set in a peaceful and secluded castle of Lanciole, a small mediaeval village in Tuscany, located in a quiet area between the Lucca and the Florence (Firenze) area, called Pesciatina's switzerland because is a pachwork of medieval villages one in front of the other and green land with wonderful views and surroundings, made by chestnuts, olive trees and vinyards, famous for porcini mushrooms and many other specialities, wild boars, beans, olive oil, chestnuts flour.
Renowned for its friendly atmosphere with the warmest of welcomes, this 800 year old one-time the bishop house now has every modern convenience and yet retains the charm and features of the past time. The Vicarage has been providing quality accomodation setting in an area considered for many guests a real jem, for his calm and tranquillity and because nothing is changed and the life here is like to make a step back in the past beeing also close to the main sightseeing in Tuscany and Italy.

In the courtyard in the back of the Vicarage you will find an hot tub for 6 people, bbq, garden furnitures to enjoy our beautiful countryside and weather, eat out or simply relaxing, reading, working, breathing our pure air and drinking our spring water. 

The Vicarage has character having been restored to re-inforce its Mediaeval origins by retention of its original woodwork and fireplace, careful choice of fittings, furnishings and décor and collection of several antique rinascimental artifacts. However, all modern conveniences have been installed, from good water supplies, central heating, kitchen equipments, washing machine and dish washer bed linen, towels and ancillaries so that you need to bring no more than your clothes and your food and drink.

A lovely court in the centre of the hamlet.

The Vicarage set at the top of the mediaeval hamlet of Lanciole and has its own secluded and peaceful small court/garden on the back, where you can relax, have your hot tub, your garden furnitures, your bbq, and eat outside. The surrounding quiet residential area is in perfect harmony with the necessity to have a relaxing and quite vacation without to be isolated.

There are not busy shops or supermarkets, just a local called Circolo where the village's people work for the others making pizza and other specialities, or serving drinks and ice cream, all just 100 metres away. In just 12 km there are more than 12 medievals villages and each one could offer to you a bar, restaurants, farm, pub.

The Parking is easy and close, but the cars can't access directly in front of the house, permitting to the people that live in the historical centre to have quite and silence beeing close to the parking spaces and the bus stop.

The house and his contents

The Vicarage can confortably accomodate until 7 people. Beeing a very old house, respecting the Tuscan lar for the restoration and conservation of the mediaeval buildings protected by "Belle arti" we have manteining the mesures of the doors, the rooms,the windows and the roof. 

The Vicarage has some rooms that could be considered small and not tall as in the new houses.

The character of the Vicarage, make for who love the history and the original antique structure of the building, something unique and it could be really appreciated. Tasting the history from any corner, tile, wood...

If you are looking for a place for your vacation, full of life, close to Mac Donalds or to a big supermarket, I'm really sorry but is not the right place for you!

From the Vicarage you can reach any town in Tuscany and the 5 terre easy, and going to the main town at 13 km away by bus or by car you can also reach Rome by train in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Florence could be reached also by train with few euros without the problem to find a parking there or we can also organize there a day trip (please visit our activities). Could be a perfect base for any tours, and coming back in the evening you can enjoy the peace, the tranquillity and the confort of this beautiful old cottage.

The Vicarage set up to an hill at 600 metres from the sea level, the antique old stones of his walls make the house fresh during the summer and warm during the winter. Anyway the central heating is available in any room and could be switched on and off as the italian governement request.

Skiing, dining and shopping nearby, museum the nearest at 15 minutes by car, golf club at 20 km far away, Horseback riding at ten minutes by car.

Florence 52 km from the village, Lucca 30 km, Pisa 42 km, Pistoia 27 km, Ski resort at 36 km, Viareggio sea at 45 km  away

Fresh bread and foodstuff available many times a week carried from the shop to the village.

Lanciole, though tiny, has a bar/pizzeria which also sells a few basic foodstuffs been managed from the village people we can't assured if it will be open every day.

The houses are located in the beautiful and tranquil hills of Pescia Switzerland . Car hire is a great way of seeing the area, and going to the major sights in Tuscany. However, some of our past guests have preferred to take a more relaxed holiday / vacation by allowing someone else to worry about Italian driving, “driving on the wrong side of the road”, finding their way around, parking in the busy tourist areas, and the general cost of car hire. When only using the hire car for 2 or 3 days per week can be very expensive, plus the fuel and motorway tolls.

Therefore, we offer the following day excursions, and also collection and return to the local airports of Pisa and Firenze ( Florence ). We will have a car waiting to collect you when you arrive, take you to your accommodation, and then you can choose to have as many sightseeing days and relaxation days at the house as you wish. If you want we can also arrange to carry you to the supermarket or buy for you and carry home what do you need and want once a day.

We are conventioned with Grotta Giusti Spa, and we can offer a discount of 10% to access to their services and their thermal pool, open all year around at 35°.

Special events can be organized with us, as air baloons, birthdays in a farm, theatre or concerts tickets and pick up, museums fast pass, day in a farm, anniversary, Valentine's dinner, cooking class, day to the golf, just let us know in time and it will be a pleasure to plan your desires.

Spaces are limited as we make all the tours in small numbers, so you have individual treatment and not herded onto and off coaches. However, we therefore recommend early booking of all airport collections and excursions to avoid disappointment.

We can also come to pick you up to the airport or to the train station and come with you to the Vicarage or to make one or more of our tours we can plan as you request.

The rental rate is calculated up to 2 guests rental, for more guests will be weekly: 4 guests: euro 500 low season 600 in high season

for 6/7 guests: euro 600 in low season to 800 i high season week.

The rental rate includes electricity, water, gaz, weekly cleaning, the linens, the towels.
