The Perfect Setting For Your Get-Away!

Peaking out from among tall timbers that line the lazy Hiawassee River, just as it yawns and empties out into the sparkling waters of Lake Chatuge, you'll find one of Hiawassee's most welcoming getaways; fittingly named "Bend of the River".  Bring your boat or rent from one of the nearby marinas and tie up to the dock just down the steps from your back porch.  Guests are welcomed to use the paddle boat provided for adults and youngsters with responsible parents.   There's a beautiful firepit area where you can grill your catch of the day, or you may wish to use one of the gas grills provided for your convenience.  Relax on the deck each morning and watch the sunrise over the lake and return to observe as it comes to rest behind the lavender mountains in the cool evening hours.  Enjoy end -of-the-road privacy with ample parking, gently rolling lawns, gardens, wooded trails and wildflowers, and the gentle whisper of the wind through the pines, lulling you to sleep at night.  Just imagine, all of this and still only 10 minutes from town, shopping, churches, restaurants and entertainment.

More Than The Sum Of All Its Parts:

In all, there are a total of 9 bedrooms and 6 baths, 4 kitchens, 4 fireplaces and the chalet sleeps up to 18 persons.  Rent either side or the whole chalet.  Perfectly suited for corporate or church retreats, planning seminars, reunions or family get-togethers for any occasion (but especially for the holidays), "Bend of the River" caters to adults but responsible families with well-behaved children are most welcomed.  Some pets considered; Please call to inquire.  The property is strictly "Non-smoking" throughout.

chalet rental amenities

Careful thought and planning went into the complete remodel of this sprawling lakefront chalet; providing several options to accommodate couples or groups of up to 18.  Each side of the chalet opens out to a common entry foyer on the main level and has a complete & separate upper and lower unit.  On one side, there are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths above, with 1 queen on the main and another queen and a double bed on the upper loft.  The lower level on this side has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen and one with a twin bed, a full bath and kitchen.  There's a wood burning fireplace in the upper unit and a gas log fireplace in the lower unit.

The other side of the chalet has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths in the upper unit, with a queen and double/ full, plus bunkroom with a full bed on the bottom and twin above.  The lower unit has one bedroom with a queen and a full bath, kitchen and a pool table / game area.  There's a wood-burning fireplace in the upper unit and a gas log fireplace in the lower unit as well.

Professional decorators spared no expense in designing and outfitting the chalet.  Skillful attention to every detail has produced the polished look and feel of a grand old hunting lodge with furnishings and decor in keeping with the theme.  Distressed leather couches, heavy woven tapestries, trophy mounts and plush, over-stuffed chairs, natural hardwood or slate flooring, stone fireplaces, carved stairways and valences and rustic touches everywhere complete the ambiance.  "Rustic", yes, but not "rough": comfy linens and towels, tasteful amenities, fully stocked kitchens, satellite TV, wireless DSL, free local phone calls, and all the comforts of home, complete the seduction.  Plan in advance for peak season and holidays so you won't miss out.  "Bend of the River" - where ordinary takes a turn toward extraordinary!

activities and attractions in Hiawassee Georgia

This private, Lakefront location with its own dock provides boat owners with the convenience of "door to dock" right in your own backyard.  Guests are welcomed to use the paddle boat free of charge if arrangements are made with manager.  It's just a short drive to either of 3 local marinas where you can rent ski boats, canoes, kayaks, Pontoons or jet skis for a day of fun on the water.  Families with small children will love the little white sandy beach area with playground, tennis courts, boat launch and picnic area.  And of course, there's the Georgia Mountain Fall Festival at the fairgrounds, located just minutes from town and your cabin.  Check out their website to see which of your favorite performers will be appearing in concert while you're here as well.  With so much to do, you'll run out of vacation before you run out of things to do!

Within a relatively short driving distance you'll find all kinds of activities and attractions with something for everyone.  There are wonderful hiking trails, including the famous Appalachian Trail, and at least 5 waterfalls that are well worth going out of your way to see.  There's Horseback Riding at the new Brasstown Stables, Fishing, White Water Rafting, "Grubbing for Gems" & Panning for Gold in nearby Dahlonega, and if you have little ones, be sure to visit the Birthplace of the Cabbage Patch Dolls, just outside of Cleveland.  Of course you wouldn't want to miss a visit to the Alpine village of Helen, just 25 minutes away, where "Octoberfest" will be in full swing this time of year.  There are street performers, dancing, fun and activities for the whole family, along with an interesting array of little shops and great restaurants.  Go tubing on the river that goes right through the heart of town or take a ride in one of the horse drawn carriages for a truly unique tour of the village

A fabuolous house for big family/friend reunions

Zuoxin W. ()
Review submitted: January 9, 2012   Date of arrival: December 23, 2011

This grand luxury house is a perfect fit for holiday celebrating and gathering. We recently rented this fabulous home for three days and our only regret was not staying for at least three more. Trust me when I say that the pictures do not do the home justice. We had 18 people staying in the house and there is so much room/space. The house is very open and is multi-leveled. It seems like you find another room or gathering area every time you turn a corner or go up a few steps. The rooms and decks overlooking the lake are great, and the billiard room with flat screen provide a perfect place to hang out with friends and children. Each room decorated elaborately and filled with Santa's blessing provides clean, cozy, and ample space for everyone at any age to enjoy and entertain. The hot tub, fire pit, and horse shoe pit were such a big hit at our Christmas Eve celebrating. An added bonus is that the owner/manager of this lake house is great to work with. She did a great job of communicating the contract and specifics of the lake house and responded to questions through emails and phone calls almost immediately. I would recommend this paradise on the water for family reunions, vacations, or just a weekend getaway. We will definitely try to return to this home in the future.

Owners response: We are so glad that your family enjoyed their Bend of the River Christmas! It is our goal to make sure every guest has a great time no matter what season and what age they are. When our guest return time after time we feel like me are meeting our goal. We never stop trying to add more to Bend of the River so there is always a nice surprise for our returning guest.

HEAVEN IN GEORGIA

KAY G. ()
Review submitted: September 14, 2011   Date of arrival: September 8, 2011

If you are looking for the “PERFECT” Getaway for several couples look no further. This Property has thought of EVERYTHING. There is a beautiful view of the lake, there is a fire pit where everyone can share their stories, there is horseshoes, there is a hot tub, there is a pool table, there are plenty of TV’s, and more kitchens and bedrooms than you could ever fill up. The décor is fabulous and rooms are spacious. Due to the size of our crowd (12), we rented both sides and it worked out great. Everyone has voted that this will be our annual place to stay for our golf outing.

Recommended for: age 55+, girls getaway

Owners response: We are so glad that everyone enjoyed their time at Bend of the River. We have many exciting additions planned this fall. A few of the additions include a waterfall, another deck with pavilion and a badminton court. As projects are completed we will post pictures. It is always nice when our guest come back year after year.

Great place to relax

kvaca (Deer Creek, IL)
Review submitted: August 16, 2011   Date of arrival: August 7, 2011

We had a great time at Bend of the River. There is a lot to do if you want or you can just relax at the house. Stores and activities are close. Make sure you bring t.p. and p. towels, and garbage bags. These items were not provided in sufficient quality. Don't park under the tree near the front door. The seeds it drops will ruin the paint on your vehicle. We found out the hard way. Owner is responsive to questions and answers come back quickly.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway

Owners response: Bend of the River is a great place to relax and have fun. The house has 4 kitchens and 6 baths. We leave a stater kit of Toliet Paper, Paper Towels and Garbage Bags for each guest, which consists of a roll of paper towels for each kitchen and a roll of toliet paper for each bath and 2 trash bags for each kitchen trash can plus a 55 gallon trash bag in each kitchen. We also supply dish liquid soap, dishwasher liquid, hand soap and body wash not to mention nice bath towels and linens along with towels to use for lake and hot tub. We want to make our guest welcome and get them started for their stay. We were unaware of a problem with the tree but it is being removed, not only is there parking in front of the house but parking on both sides of the house.
