activities and attractions in Sarasota Gulf Coast Central
Sarasota is well known as the cultural center of southwest Florida, with an opera, ballet, symphony, live theaters, art shows and the famous Ringling Museum and Mote Marine aquarium. Sarasota hosts many art and musical activities throughout the year; every Saturday morning there is a farmer’s market downtown where you can buy anything from fresh vegetables and street food to jewelry and handmade crafts -- or you can stop for coffee at a sidewalk cafe and enjoy the people scene. Sarasota’s restaurants range from Michelin rated to the laidback beach-side pubs. Nearby Siesta Key features its famous quartz, white sand beach that is cool to the touch even on the hottest days. The area offers opportunities to play championship quality golf courses, fish on charter boats to the Gulf of Mexico or from the pier just two blocks away, kayak or canoe through the water's mangroves, and bird watch in the close-by parks. If you want a break from the local sights, take an airboat trip into the beautiful “River of Grass” – the Everglades National Park – for some more exotic animal and bird watching.
