Beach -Marathon

Museum and Nature Center of Crane Point Hammock

Sombrero Beach
Turn left at Kmart on Sombrero Beach Road and you'll find one of the nicest
beach in the Middle Keys. The Keys are not known for their beaches but
Sombrero is a beautiful beach and it is right here in Marathon!

Marathon - Pigeon Key

7 Mile Bridge

A tiny five acre island just below the seven mile bridge was once the
home to the workers who built Henry Flagler's Railroad which connected
the Keys to northern commerce. Enjoy the relatively long walk along
the seven mile bridge to get out to the Island and take the Trolley
ride back. Some of you may remember The famed Seven Mile Bridge and
Pigeon Key in the movie "True Lies" featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Marathon - Museum and Nature Center
The most important historical and archaeological site in the Keys.
Evidence of Prehistoric Bahamian and Colombian tribes are found here.
On site you will also find The Museum of Natural History of the
Florida Keys, an archive of ancient artifacts found in the area and
The Children's Museum of the Florida Keys which is an indoor/outdoor
facility with ecological exhibits for the kids!
Don't miss The Adderley home. Early immigrant George Adderley and his
Family lived a simple life among tropical trees such as the
lignumvitae whose hard wood was once used to make bowling balls. The
family survived by making charcoal and gathering and selling sponges.
One trail will take you to the Marathon Wild Bird Center which is a
hospital for many of the native birds of the Marathon Area!
Feeding the fish is also a hit with the kids with large resident
Barracuda and Shark!
And I have to mention Casa Iguana, the home to many species of Iguanas
ranging from 3 to 6 feet long.

Marathon - Turtles
Turtle Hospital Educational Tour
Another can't miss experience is the Turtle Hospital Educational Tour
which many of our guests have included as a highlight of their

traveler reviews for this marathon house rental

Excellent time!!!

Review submitted: May 2, 2011   Date of arrival: April 23, 2011

A little about us - we are dinks (double income no kids) we live three and a half hours north of Mike's house in West Palm Beach, Fl.

We actually drove by the home when were in Marathon in Jan of this year and knew what to expect for the outside at least.

The home is extremely clean (we are clean freaks) and very nicely appointed, the master bed was comfortable, the A/C was cold, the kitchen was well stocked. There is a ton of room to put all our extras that I brought like the fishing gear and keep it out of the way. The two flat screen Tv's were very nice, wireless internet was fast and an added plus. The other bedrooms were very nice sized and both bathrooms rooms were very big.

The best part is the dock/porch area, it looks huge in the pictures and it is, we spent a lot of time cooking out there and hanging out. We had a 28ft boat and we had a lot of room to spare on the dock. It has a nice fish cleaning station, with water and power (its nice to rise down the boat after a long day of fishing) The bait freezer was handy, being able to store bait and just grab it and going made things very convenient.

The only thing missing was a gas grill, but its hard to find gas in Marathon so I understand why Mike doesn't get one, we actually used the charcoal grill all week and it does make the best steaks, lobster, scallops you will ever taste. It just takes a little longer.

I really can't think of anything Mike could do that would make his place better, we liked the place so much that we rented it again in July for our family vacation. We are excited and can't wait to go again and stay at his place.

One other great thing, the house was ground level, it made getting into the boat so much more easy that a two story home which you see a lot of in the keys, you basically walk outside and you are in your boat ready to go fishing.

I would highly recommend the Key Lime Kickback to stay at.

Among the BEST

Review submitted: February 11, 2011   Date of arrival: January 28, 2011

We rented this beautiful place for a 7 night vacation and were absolutely satisfied. This place is among the best I ever rented for vacation. Everything is spacoius, clean, useful and fully equipped. A little prob with the TV was fixed immediately with the instant help of the very kind owner and the rental agency. We felt very comfortable and would definitely rent again on return. The area provides lots of attractions like nature trails, sandy beaches, the turtle hospital, the dolphin research center and so on. Key West ist just one and a half hour away and heading to Miami takes about two hours by car. So ypu are right in the middle of the awesome Florida Keys. Seven mile bridge is right in front of your door and a lot of good restaurants dont leave you hungry.

House Bonuses

Review submitted: March 29, 2010   Date of arrival: February 27, 2010

First the bad - the house phone did not work; it did get fixed a couple of days later but by that time we had already amassed a couple of hundred of dollars in cell charges. If the calls hadn't have been absolutely necessary we would not have made them - and we were never reimbursed in any financial fashion because of this.
When you drive down the road that the house is on and see the front of the house you've just rented for a considerable sum ; you think -"What have I done?"
From there on in it's all very good. The interior of the house is very nice; the bedrooms are all a good size and the beds are very comfortable. The screened in back porch is great andf if you want to catch some sun there's loads of space to lay outside, the living room is quite comfortable and the big flat screen T.V.'s are a bonus.
If you have your own boat, there is plenty of room to dock it right there. If you're into sea-kayaking or canoeing, you can launch right at the end of the streetor go a street over(2 streets?) and there's a nice little park there where you can launch there. As the tide goes in and out it's best to fish along the mangroves or out where the channels meet to head out to the deep water. All you need is medium gear to have a lot of fun catching a myriad of hard fighting salt-water fish. TIP: buy some small jig-heads and a bag of cheap, cooked, peeled, frozen shrimp and stick them on for bait. They stay on longer than live shrimp, cost way less than Berkley Gulp and you still get great results.
And, the proximity to Sombrero beach is a huge plus. I've been going to the Keys for some 20 consecutive years and I believe that Sombrero Beach is THE best beach in all the Keys.
Oh, and check out - it's supposed to be at 10:00 but if the house isn't rented that day you can arrange to check out later in the day. WE used that option and appreciated the later departure very much

Owners response: As the owner I appreciate the review, Let me address the telephone issue, we just remodeled our home and the new telephone wire went bad, it was replaced with new wire again and now it works fine. And right after this review we have added some new landscaping, a new sleeper sofa, and a new outdoor table, chairs and loungers besides the furniture in the screened-in porch. Sorry about the phone, We will continue to strive to keep our home as nice as possible. Also at high tide you can launch your kayak right from our dock. Thanks Mike.
