Two twin beds in downstairs bedroom. Family owned and managed locally. Our cottage can be yours for a weekend or weeks. Cottage available year round. Also perfect for local family overflow visitors. vacation rental rates

Cottage rental is $150 per night. We have beds for 12 folks.

$200 refundable damage deposit required. $50 cleaning fee. 6% use tax on total. Payment via personal check, money order, or PayPal with 3% + $.30 transaction fee added in to rental payment.

Perfect get together for family

Great place to get together with the whole family. It was a great setup! The upstairs was so amazing. We kept finding ourselves up there relaxing with our grandsons. A wall of windows that opened with a cool breeze flowing in. Everything was provided. Lots of seating area in the dining and living room. Kids spent the whole day in the water and making sand castles. The water was shallow for quite a ways out, so we weren't as nervous when they were in the water. Beautiful street in front of the cottage which provided me with a great place to run. The adults took turns taking walks together because it was so enjoyable. The damage deposit was returned promptly. Wonderful time was had by all.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: This has been a tremendous hot summer and the warm lake and our sandy beach have been a blessing.

Family Reunion 2011 Chickadee Cottage

Beautiful views fom the cottage, I walked in and it took my breath away! Beautiful furnishings,adequate cooking and eating utensils.Plenty of sleeping room.
The beach was as described, we went down to the public beach,it was very nice.
Very nice neighbors! Beautiful and exquisite gardens in the neighborhood, delightful walks. We saw deer and rabbits (grandchild loved this!)
Miss the sound of the waves at night.
We became fascinated with the chickadees at the birdfeeder and learned more about them.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway

Lovely stay on Lake Huron

We rented this cottage for an annual fishing weekend with friends. Port Sanilac does not have many traditional lodging options. There are two motels, both quite dated, and a b&b which is ok but not a great value in our opinion. This cottage, however, suited our needs perfectly.

The cottage sits directly on Lake Huron, mere steps from the water. The beach appears to be quite rocky and likely unsuitable for swimming, but with water temperatures in the mid 40's, that was not an issue. The cottage is approximately a half mile from downtown, the marina, and beach. There is a nice deck overlooking the lake. The grounds and interior are in excellent shape, tastefully decorated (yes, the Chickadee theme abounds), and very clean.

The main sitting room/dining room overlooks the lake and has comfortable seating (I dozed happily in the recliner after a long day on the water). The kitchen is very thoroughly equipped, with every requirement for a housekeeping type stay met. There is also a nice bbq grill.

Sleeping arrangements include a bedroom downstairs with two twin beds and an upstairs with like 7 beds, including one full and the remainder twins. There is one bath up and one bath down. The downstairs bath is off the bedroom, and it might put some people off that anyone using that bath will walk through the bedroom to get there. That didn't bother us. As a couple used to sharing a bed, we would have preferred a queen to the two twins, but again, not a major issue. The beds were comfortable and clean, and there were plenty of good quality towels available.

Booking with the owner was professionally handled and hassle free, with our damage deposit returned in short order following our stay. There was a $50 cleaning fee which is not spelled out on the website but was clearly communicated prior to our booking. I would suggest including that in the fee structure articulated on the web.

For two couples or a family or group, I view the Chickadee Cottage as an excellent value. We certainly plan on staying there next year when we are doing our annual trip.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing

Owners response: We really appreciate this kind review, but needed to correct a couple technical errors. The upstairs at the cottage contains three queen size beds and four twins. The cottage beach changes constantly throughout the year-right now it's very sandy. A big storm can change that overnight. The beach tends to be pebbly but is not rocky. Beach/water shoes or old sneakers work well for those with sensitive feet. It is very swimmable and you can just walk right in. Lake Huron is an everchanging glorious presence at the Chickadee Cottage and we are the only reasonably priced cottage on the lake in Port Sanilac that has enough beds for your larger family.
