activities and attractions in Port Charlotte Gulf Coast South
You'll be staying in a quiet, residential community that feels out-of-the-way, but gives you plenty to do. One of our biggest attractions is ready access to some of the best in-shore and coastal fishing on Florida's West Coast for everything from Snapper to Snook to Tarpon. Neighborhood boat ramp nearby puts you in place to fish the gulf, Charlotte Harbor, or to head upstream in the Myakka River for brackish and fresh water species.
When you're not fishing, there's plenty to do. Port Charlotte is the Spring Training home of the Tampa Bay Rays and the permanent home of the minor league Stone Crabs. Make the short drive to Punta Gorda for great restaurants and nightlife; or, take a 15 minute drive to historic Boca Grande. You're 10 to 30 minutes from some of the country's best beaches, in Charlotte County and on the nearby barrier islands. Try a visit to the Warm Springs, just 10 minutes away. Play some tennis or golf at one of the numerous clubs nearby. Visit one of the state parks nearby to see alligators close up. There is a movie complex just 10 minutes away that shows all the latest releases. Take time out for a longer excursion to visit Naples, the Everglades, Lake Okeechobee. Of course, there's always the option of doing nothing ... just kick back and read.
If you are flying in to our area, you have several good options for air travel:
- Tampa International Airport is about two hours away, but you can fly there direct from almost any major airport.
- Ft. Myers Airport is smaller, but efficient, and is less than an hour away.
- The refurbished Charlotte County/Punta Gorda Airport services flights from the smaller airports serviced by Direct Air, including Worcester, MA, Kalamazoo, Plattsburgh, Springfield IL, and Niagara Falls.
