activities and attractions in Seattle Washington
Cottage Lake is near Woodinville, WA. on Seattle's eastside. In the
heart of Western Washington's wine country, Woodinville is home to
seven wineries, including Chateau Ste. Michelle, and Columbia
Wineries as well as Redhook Brewery. Chateau Ste. Michelle has a
fantastic summer outdoor concert series.
The HerbFarm is Woodinville's own five star restaurant. It is
expensive, formal, dinner only, reservations months in advance
(required), yet an unforgettable experience.
The Sammamish Valley Trail winds through Woodinville along the
Sammamish Slough providing a scenic route from Redmond through
Woodinville to Seattle Gas Works Park for walkers, bikers or
equestrian riders.
Other things to do in the area:
Seattle's waterfront and Pioneer Square (including the Aquarium, if
you are so inclined). Be sure and stop off at Pike place Market
(where they throw the fish). The good shopping is short walk from
the waterfront.
Take a day to go to Fremont and experience some of Seattle's unique
neighborhoods.
Take a ferry somewhere on a sunny day just for the ride.
Port Townsend (on the Peninsula) is a great day trip. It's a
Victorian town that was semi-abandoned in the early 1900's (they
built it thinking it would be the shipping center, but the train
tracks stopped in Seattle) So its pretty much preserved as it was.
Also, go to the Olympic peninsula and see the beautiful
beaches. Especially Ruby Beach and low tide at Kalaloch.
There are two mountain ranges - Cascades to the east, which has
Snohomish Falls (of Twin Peaks fame) and lots of great day hikes.
The Olympics are to the west, on the Olympic Penninsula. For Olympic
mountains, go to Hurricane ridge.
Visit the San Juan Islands. Friday harbor on San Juan Island is
funky and cute. From there, you can go on kayak trips or whale
watches (from what I can tell, the Orcas are around in June and
July).
The nearest major airport is Sea-Tac International which is
approximately 25 miles southwest via Rte 405.
