An Amazing Place to Stay

I looked for several months before selecting Hale Kai One for our week's stay in Hawaii. The pictures are accurate, and the house far exceeded expectations. This is a large casual, comfortable and relaxed home, very clean and in good repair. Our hostess Angie lives next door and is so friendly and accommodating, bringing us a wonderful cold-cut platter for sandwiches after our 9-hour flight. Beautiful Kailua Beach is just outside like a back yard and we so enjoyed the ocean and watching the locals walking their dogs and kite-surfing. We all sat around the table and talked and laughed in the mornings with breakfast prepared in the wonderful roomy kitchen with huge picture windows looking out on the beach. We visited the Polynesian Cultural Center, had the famous garlic shrimp (our favorite meal while on the island), visited with local artists working alongside the highway to the north shore, went into Honolulu for shopping and the submarine trip. The bedrooms are airy and bright and arranged so that each of the 6 of us had complete privacy. There were plenty of bathrooms, also clean and comfortable. I'm SO glad I chose to stay in Kailua instead of a crowded hotel in Honolulu. We all had a little "goodbye ceremony" on the beach the day we left with a promise to return to this beautiful, peaceful place. Kailua is a great little town, with super-nice locals who seem to appreciate visitors. Even the waiters in the diner asked where we were from and were very eager to please. You will need to rent a car to get around. We happened to be there on a weekend where there was an artists and craftsman's market downtown where we made several purchases. I still miss the sound of the ocean waves at night. We WILL be back!!
