Charming, relaxing, and convenient

Review submitted: July 26, 2010   Date of arrival: June 15, 2010

This was the perfect property for relaxing and exploring this part of New England. The house is a rare balance of historic authenticity and modern conveniences. The small paneled library had an interesting book selection and was a great reading spot. While having a glass of wine on the back porch, we saw deer and rabbits. It is an easy walk to the village of Washington Depot which has a good book store, coffee shop, clothing stores (J. McLaughlin and others), and home decor shops (Green Hill and others). The property is on the Shepaug River, with good hiking. Kayaking and fishing are nearby. Day trips are easy. We went to Edith Warton's house in Lenox, with great antiquing along the way. Washington Depot was less than a two-hour drive from Manhattan. Would love to have had it for the entire summer or fall!

Perfectly charming for a stress-free getaway

This was a great property for a stress-free getaway, yet with plenty to do in the area and good shopping and dining. The house is a rare balance of historic authenticity and modern conveniences. It has an interesting history and was very comfortable, relaxing, homey, and beautifully-furnished. The small paneled library had an interesting book selection. While having a glass of wine on the back porch, we saw deer and rabbit. It is on the Shepaug River, with good hiking. We were able to drive up to Edith Warton's house in Lenox, with great antiquing along the way. It is an easy drive from Manhattan; the trip took less than two hours.
