vacation rental description
Alburgh, Vermont. Lakeside cottage 45 minutes from Montreal and one hour from Burlington directly on Lake Champlain with views of distant mountains. Our cottage faces west and offers a shady screen porch for outdoor dining and sunsets, a large lawn for games and a sandy beach with gradual shoreline great for small children and adults as well. A short walk to the Champlain Bikeway and the country village. The house is well equipped for cooking though there are several local restaurants nearby. The house has an open floor plan. The lower bedroom opens to the living room and allows a direct view of the water. It can be closed off with sliding doors. The private upstairs bedroom also has a lake view as does the loft. Though there is central heat, the house has a fireplace to take the chill off or for a little romance. We have all of the appliances except a washer/dryer. The laundromat is several blocks away. Canoes and sunfish available. We have adult life vests but please bring children's sized vests.
house rental amenities
The main floor bedroom wall can be completely open or closed with folding doors. When one is alone and the wall is open it is great to be able to see the water and fireplace from the bed. There are huge sliding glass doors facing the water which is featured everywhere in the cottage. Within this room is a full sized twin bed window seat. If you have a young child, this is a great spot... or just cozy up and read here in the big window. There is a folding door for privacy but, we expect you will know your friends pretty well. After all, it's a summer place.
The second floor bedroom has its own stairs and opens over a 2 story living room. It does have privacy but, everything is open to everything else.
The open loft has two twin beds and a metal spiral staircase.
Very civilized bathroom for a lake cottage. The floor and shower are tiled. There is a direct vent heater, a fan and plenty of bars for your towels. The jetted tub is nice after a long bike ride. There's a door from the living area and one from the lower bedroom area.
We have one raft for lolling on the water. Our outdoor dining chairs double as places to sit on the beach but we usually just use beach towels. In addition there are rockers on the porch and a couple of folding recliners. Neighbors with children are nearby on one side and a lovely middle aged couple on the other side. We try to respect their privacy and they do the same.
This is a fun, relaxing place with a big lawn for games or just running around well away from busy streets.
activities and attractions in Alburgh Vermont
Fishermen/sportsmen: If you have a boat that is small enough to trailer, you could anchor off shore and watch the weather carefully. Storms come up quickly on the lake.
Road bikers should google Lake Champlain biking for information on the bicycle trail network up and down the lake. Lake Champlain offers lots of easy biking near the water. It is amazingly beautiful. Bring your passport and bike to Canada and back.
A new attraction is that we are about a 15 minute drive from a cheese factory in Canada. Passports needed but the cheeses are done right on the farm and sold there in Noyan CA
This is one of the best spots in the world to sit on your butt and watch water. Choose shade on the screened porch or full sun on the lawn and beach.
Be sure to view Montreal websites and think about one day trip to watch the fireworks contest or go to a jazz club or visit a Museum.
