Small Vintage Cottage

Review submitted: August 20, 2014   Date of arrival: June 21, 2014

Just as title says, this is a small vintage cottage. It is straight out of the 1960s-1970s; our family stayed in June 2014 and had a great time. The owner, Mimi, was pleasant and worked with us on the dates. The cottage had plenty of room inside for 4 teenagers and ourselves. The kitchen was roomy and stocked with dishes, pots and pans, a nice deep sink, large refrigerator, new stove and a microwave. The dining/living room was spacious and has books and puzzles for your enjoyment. The furnishings could use some serious updating, as in take it all out and put in all new. We were not bothered that there is no internet or cable, but some families may need that for an extended stay. I personally missed it but no one else seemed to. The bathroom is tiny and that's putting it nicely. Everything works just fine, it's just very very small (as they were back then). The stairs leading up to the second floor are very steep and anyone with difficulty walking up normal stairs will have a problem with this. Once up there, there are 3 nice bedrooms with plenty of space. There are no doors, but curtains hung in their place. Not a problem for us, it kept the air circulating and kept it cooler. We chose the option for linen to be provided and we are glad we did, it's worth it. Outdoors, the cottage has a nice shoreline and we had a bonfire several nights out there; there is also a screen porch and another porch on the side, as well as a clothesline. My husband managed to park our truck and boat at the cottage every night, though with difficulty. He said he would never do it again, however, too much of a hassle since there is no dock to tie up to and he had to take it out of the water every night. Also, there is limited parking so if you have family/friends there is no where for them to park here. We caused quite the ruckus with the neighbors complaining about where we parked and the owner not realizing we were having 'friends' over (they were our family members, the whole reason we were there). All in all, if you take a chance here, good luck, it may work out for you. It just didn't suit what we need when we visit the area.

Relax, Kick Back, Have a Glass of Wine (or Beer)

Review submitted: July 21, 2010   Date of arrival: July 10, 2010

The owners were great, very friendly and very helpful about the area. You must eat at the Blue Heron in Chaumont at the beginning of your week, you will go back. Our meal was Five Star. Chaumont is a cute little town, grocery store, hardware store, liquor store, restaruants, all you really need on vacation. You can rent a pontoon boat in Guffin's Bay, the fishing was good. My husband tells the story about the one that got away (it was a really big bass). I told him he needed heavier pound test line. LOL!!

As you can see from the picture, the cottage is cute. It had all the things that we needed for the week. Bathroom, Bedrooms, Kitchen, Enclosed Porch, Living/Dining Area, Fire Pit, Gas Grill. Good level swimming area, wear your aqua shoes. It had very few weeds.

Please remember that this is an old cottage, a very tight bathroom, old kitchen, ample size bedrooms. The walls are approx. an inch thick, heavy curtains for bedroom doors. We went with another couple that are our best friends, it was not a problem. All four of us would return.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, romantic getaway
