Love the Kensington

Review submitted: August 3, 2014   Date of arrival: August 1, 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Kensington for a weekend away this weekend and once again, Cranmore has exceeded our expectations. We have stayed in Cranmore cottages for years and have not been disappointed. The Kensington is a charming house near the historical district of Hendersonville. Light, airy, clean, very well kept and cozy. The bedrooms (3) all have top of the line linens and the master king was very comfortable. There is a spacious back yard fenced in, perfect for kids, clean hot tub, and a large kitchen with a wonderful square table with seating for 8. I not only recommend this house for a vacation weekend or week for couples or families - I also recommend other properties with Cranmore. The team is always responsive to any needs we have had, mostly minor, and they take great pride in keeping customers happy. That's why we keep coming back.

Terrible Experience

Review submitted: July 29, 2014   Date of arrival: July 27, 2014

Upon entering the house, we noticed a musty, cat urine smell. There were holes in the closet ceiling and the windows held a flimsy piece of plastic that couldn’t be opened. The carpet in the master bedroom was wet and the smell was overpowering. The house was in a general state of disrepair that the cutesy decorations couldn’t mask. Within hours we were flea bitten to the point that my son had more than 20 on his feet. The next morning, we bought flea bombs and left for several hours so that the house could be fumigated. When we returned hours later, the power was off. When I called the owner/property manager she immediately apologized for the fleas and offered to reimburse for the pesticide. She also promised to contact the power company to report an outage and insisted that she was sending maintenance to correct the issue with the wet carpet in the master bedroom. A few hours later she updated me to tell me that the power company promised power within 3 hours of her update, but no sign of maintenance for the wet carpet. 4 hours later we still had no power. She was surprised. We looked at the meter and noticed a new lock on it. When we questioned her about the possibility the power had been shut off, she admitted it had been due to a billing error but she was working to correct the issue. She offered to buy our dinner as compensation. 45 minutes later when darkness was setting in, we hurriedly packed everything including the contents of the refrigerator and freezer we had purchased the night before and frantically tried to find a new place to stay that would accommodate a party of 5 and a freezer full of food (did I mention that our cell batteries were dying and we used our data allotment because we had no power and therefore no wireless internet?). Had she been honest with us when we originally reported the loss of power, we would have had the time to find another place to stay until the issue had been resolved. We did get a full-refund in the end, but beware – the glowing reviews prior to our stay seem suspect.
