The Craftsman Garden Bungalow is an upscale 2,000 sqft, 2 bed & 2 bath single-story Craftsman-style vacation home situated on nearly an acre of Japanese-inspired and lush tropical gardens, 2.5 miles from historic, downtown Hilo and Hilo Bay. Amenities include a private outdoor garden spa equipped with jetted hot tub with UV light water purification, infrared sauna and outdoor shower. The beautifully landscaped grounds and naturalistic setting capture the tranquility and beauty of the islands where travelers can relax and experience the true Hawaii that the locals live.

The Craftsman Garden Bungalow provides a private vacation retreat with all the comforts of home for visitors and travelers to the Big Island of Hawaii seeking an alternative to the 'resort' atmosphere, and where you will not feel like a tourist.. The bungalow is exquisitely designed with Shoji doors that open to a garden oasis with pond, waterfall and fountains. Spacious interiors are furnished in elegant comfort with vintage island decor, rich woods, built-in electric fireplace, natural stone and a 42-inch Plasma HDTV with home theater sound system.

The bungalow is in a picturesque area of Hilo surrounded by streams, waterfalls and quiet cul-de-sacs perfect for walking or jogging. Scenic views of landscaped terraces and a partial ocean view of Hilo Bay can be enjoyed from the screened lanai. Simply relax in the outdoor courtyard and covered lanai equipped with gas grill, dining and lounge furniture. The garden bungalow retreat is perfect for a Hawaiian getaway or a home base to visit exotic points of interest on the island.

In harmony with nature and with all the comforts of home, the Garden Bungalow will make your journey a most memorable experience. Chef's kitchen is fully equipped and coffee bar is stocked with fresh, organic coffee. Your hosts reside on the neighboring property and personally greet you and handle key exchanges when you arrive. . Your hosts can answer questions you may have, assist you with your needs and help you plan your stay, sharing tips on where to visit, how to get there, where to lunch and favorite local dining spots.

The Garden is a fusion of Japanese-inspired naturalistic landscape and nearly an acre of lush tropical grounds. The Japanese garden, a microcosm of nature, reflects the three elements of traditional Japanese garden design representing the Earth: Stone representing mountains and islands for strength and support, Water is the center representing purity, and Plants grace it with texture, color and growth trimmed to capture its pure and essential shape. Blended with the natural surroundings, the Garden courtyard features natural moss rock boulders with water gently falling creating a graceful stream flowing into the fishpond with delicate water lilies. The Garden uses Japanese asymmetry and placement of boulders, rustic stone lanterns, stone water basins and fountains, bamboo fences and rustic benches.

We offer Wedding and Honeymoon packages that include bungalow accommodations and wedding services. Weddings, graduations, receptions or gatherings may be allowed with owner's prior consent and only by arrangement with our event planning and management services.

Hawaii State Law dictates that all public areas are designated as smoke free. The safety and comfort of all our guests is of utmost importance to us. As such we have a non smoking policy. Smoking is not allowed in any of our buildings or on the property grounds. Please inform your visitors of our non smoking policy.

Children are welcome at the Garden Bungalow, however, families with children of a certain age must be aware of safety concerns around the fishpond on the property.

The Craftsman Garden Bungalow features a 42-inch Plasma HDTV with home theatre sound system, HD cable, Blu-ray DVD/CD player, wireless and hardwired broadband internet access, iPod connection to speakers, telephone, FREE long distance to mainland, interisland, Canada and US territories, enclosed garage and automatic garage door opener with remote. Kitchen is fully equipped, plus instant hot/cold filtered water dispenser at kitchen sink. Screened lanai is equipped with wet bar. Covered lanai and outdoor courtyard are furnished with Jenn-Air gas grill and garden furniture for dining and relaxation. Jetted hot tub and infrared sauna situated at the otdoor garden spa is available for our gurests. Built-in security system with central station monitoring is provided for your peace of mind and safety. Central vacuum system and wood-grain laminate floors provide a low allergen environment. Full laundry room with washer, dryer, sink and supplies are provided. All natural, eco-friendly cleaners are used. Housekeeping is available. For longer stays house cleaning is provided at least every two weeks for a fee. In-house massage is available.

The Garden Bungalow is a 5 minute drive or free bus ride away from quaint downtown Hilo and Hilo Bay. Hilo is known for its warm aloha spirit, relaxed lifestyle, unique shops, art galleries and restaurants with local regional cuisine. Local attractions include Lyman Museum, East Hawaii Cultural Center, historic Palace Theatre, Pacific Tsunami Museum, Imiloa Astronomy Center, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. Hilo Farmer's Market is a favorite for fresh, local produce. Merrie Monarch Festival, Hilo's premier hula competition and cultural event, is held annually. Hilo's black sand beaches and freshwater pools are some of the best for snorkeling, diving, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming with turtles and tropical fish, or watching the whales off shore. Take a helicopter volcano tour or short scenic drive to active Kilauea volcano to view a lava flow, ride horses in Waipio Valley or tour the summit and view the night skies of Mauna Kea.

Rental fees are subject to Hawaii tax totaling 13.42%.

Additional Rental Information:
A 50% rental deposit is due at time of booking the reservation to hold dates and rate, with the balance payable 60 days prior to arrival, except 90 days prior for Merrie Monarch, Thanksgiving and/or periods between Dec 15th and Jan 15th. A fully-refundable security deposit is required. Payments may be by check or credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card and American Express.

Cancellation Policy:
Notify us by email 60 or more days prior to your arrival date and deposit funds will be refunded, minus a 15% cancellation fee. After the 60 day cancellation period expires an 'in house' credit will be issued that you may apply towards the cost of one new reservaton, good for one year, again minus a 15% cancellation fee. Cancellations after the arrival date or early departures do not warrant any refund or credit of rental deposit.  The cancellation period for Merrie Monarch, Thanksgiving and/or periods between Dec 15th and Jan 15th is 90 days.
