traveler reviews for this cape coral house rental

Beautiful home but experienced some problems

Karen H. ()
Review submitted: April 23, 2013   Date of arrival: March 2, 2013

We had a party of 6 (8 one night) in this home. We agree with many of the reviews here. Beautiful home/beautiful city. Having a boat to go to Ft Myers Beach, etc was a plus. The home is close to a grocery, liquor and drug store & cabs are available if needed. The home was lovely but we did have a few problems. The hot water heater was not adequate for the size of the home. We learned to stagger shower times so we had warm water.
Most disappointing was the hot tub. We followed the property manager’s instructions for care, use & cleaning, however on the 4th night of our stay the water was rank. We are adults; no one did anything they shouldn’t have in the hot tub. Our swimwear smelled disgusting upon exiting the hot tub & water was brownish. The next morning we called the property manager but did not get an immediate response. By this time there were 2 people in our party with rashes, 1 being particularly bad, to the point he would not even wear a sleeveless shirt. 2 of our party were hot tub owners. We came to the conclusion that the hot tub must be drained, so took time out of our vacation to carefully drain the tub, clean and refill it. When emptying we noted the zip tie was still on the hose so felt the water had not been changed between guests, which from a sanitary standpoint is unacceptable.
Unfortunately the property manager was unhappy with our decision to empty & clean. We took every precaution to insure no damage was done to the tub or grass. She called the property owner who decided the pool maintenance person should come. He comes weekly anyway. He arrived the day after we had drained and refilled the tub. He told us we did not hurt the tub. He forgot his manual so had to return later. By the end of the week, 4 of the total of 8 people who had been in the tub had a rash. 1 was seen by his doctor upon returning for swollen lymph nodes & given antibiotics to combat infection. $89 of our deposit was not returned. $15 for a lost beach towel which was understandable. $74 for excessive water/electric use & "extra" trip by pool maintenance, which we didn't understand as he comes weekly anyway. The owner refused to listen to our reasoning & had no mercy for our trouble in cleaning, refilling or for the rashes, which disappointed us. This is our honest review; beautiful home but we were disappointed in the lack of resolution to our problems. We have stayed in many rentals in the past & have never experienced anything like this.

Owners response: We do feel it necessary to respond to what we consider an unwarrented unfavorable review.

Both our contract and instructions at our home specifically forbid renters from performing any maintenance on the pool or hot tub. This provision is included for the safely of all who rent our home and is also in place to prevent damage to the equipement. We have a pool professional who is available anytime should renters encounter unexpected difficulties. This group of renters chose not to adhere to the terms of the contract. The group checked in on a Sat. The tub was opened, approved and instructions for use were provided. The following Weds. morning one of the group left our house manager a phone message stating they had chosen to drain the hot tub (without permission) but were unable to find chemicals to add to the water. My manager immediately called the renter contacted me and our pool company.

The company was able to get the chemicals properly added. The tub was ready for use the next day. They returned the following Sat. to check chemical levels resulting in an extra charge. Of course refilling and heating a 750 gallon hot tub resulted in increased electrical usage over the amount allotted in the contract. The portion of the deposit withheld was to cover additional out of pocket costs to us to remedy this groups' decision to drain the tub rather than allowing us to fix the claimed problem. One can only speculate why they would have chosen to do this.

Interesting is that this group made absolutely no mention of any "rashes" or other conditions during their stay or upon check out. It was only after a portion of the deposit was withheld that allegations were made regarding these.

We have been fortunate. The vast majority of our renters have treated our home and property with respect and care. They have had wonderful vacations. Out of hundreds of renters we have never before had to withhold portions of the deposit due to violation of the contract. Had we wished, our contract would allow the entire damage deposit to be withheld. These renters violated several other provisions including failing to inform us of additional guests staying. We feel we responsed reasonably and fairly.

We encourage potential renters to view our many complimententary reviews which attest to the fact that we have a beautiful well maintained home. We make every attempt to accommodate reasonable renters and are very responsive to questions or concerns.

What a place! Just beautiful. :)

6 Happy Canadians (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada)
Review submitted: March 19, 2013   Date of arrival: March 9, 2013

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to stay at your beautiful, well-decorated home. You made the reservation process and communication so easy. We were so pleased with the house. We were totally struck by the creative layout...just slide a few glass doors and the lanai is totally open to the main area of the house. We just loved this feature! In fact there were so many features that elevated the quality of our stay in Cape Coral. Each of the three couples in our party were quite happy with the 3 king-size beds available to them. The house itself was immaculate and prepared with linens, a good supply of dishes and utensils, updated appliances, WI-FI and printer, bicycles, and so much more. We enjoyed breakfast by the pool each morning, a late night swim in the evening, and a trip to the hot tub before bed. The outside dining table and the tikki hut, seemed to be our preferred gathering points for relaxing conversation. This is a well-appointed home that is so easy to recommend. MayJane the property manager was ready and willing to provide any assistance. This was just icing on the cake! A truly enjoyable stay. Thanks for making our family vacation memorable. We definitely hope to return for another visit.

Review submitted: February 18, 2013   Date of arrival: January 26, 2013

We had a great experience in this house. The accommodations were spacious and comfortable and the outdoor pool/hot tub were super. We would recommend this house to anyone who needs sleeping room for eight and enjoys spending time in the pool and hot tub. Tom and Lynn were very easy to work with and we thank them for opening this lovely house to renters like us. Of course the beautiful sunny weather during the two weeks we were there also made our stay extra enjoyable.
