Golf
St. Croix has the best golf in the U.S. Virgins. Guests staying on St. John and St. Thomas often fly over for a day's round on one of the island's three courses.
The Carambola Golf Course, on the northeast side of St. Croix
Buccaneer, Gallows Bay 2 miles east of Christiansted
The Reef, on the east end of the island at Teague Bay
Snorkeling & Diving
Sponge life, black coral and steep drop-offs into water near the shoreline make St. Croix a snorkeling and diving paradise. The island is home to the largest living reef in the Caribbean, including the fabled north-shore wall that begins in 25 to 30 feet of water and drops to 13,200 feet, sometimes straight down. Buck Island is a major scuba-diving site, with a visibility of some 100 feet. It also has an underwater snorkeling trail. All the outfitters offer scuba and snorkeling tours to Buck Island.
Other favorite dive sites include the historic Salt River Canyon, which is for advanced divers. Submerged canyons walls are covered with purple tube sponges, deep-water gorgonians, and black coral saplings. You'll see schools of yellowtail snapper, turtles, and spotted eagle rays. We also like the gorgeous coral gardens of Scotch Banks , and Eagle Ray, the latter so named because of the rays that cruise along the wall there. Cane Bay is known for its coral canyons.
Davis Bay is the site of the 12,000-foot-deep Puerto Rico Trench. Northstar Reef, at the east end of Davis Bay, is a spectacular wall dive, recommended for intermediate or experienced divers only. The wall here is covered with stunning brain corals and staghorn thickets. At some 50 feet down, a sandy shelf leads to a cave where giant green moray eels hang out. A whirlwind view of the Island

Restaurants
Paradise found! Although you can't eat atmosphere, you can drink it in! Some of the island's nicest restaurants are in historic courtyards, overlooking marinas, on the beach, in the finest resorts, and tucked away in places that say "call for directions." From beach bars to those establishments featured on national television, every meal is a highlight of your vacation. For local delights, stop at the food vans selling Roti, sort of a West Indian burrito, and Salt fish Pate, deep fried and great with a cold beer! Be sure to sample the West Indian Pig Roasts and buffets offered at the resorts! Major credit cards are accepted, and reservations are preferred. A word to the wise: ties and jackets are definitely not in fashion for the gentlemen; ladies, it's either casual or casual elegance. Local customs frown on swimwear in restaurants.
Shopping
Shopping in St. Croix is a sight-seeing tour in itself! Quaint shops are tucked in historic buildings made of cut coral, molasses mortar, and Danish bricks brought as ballast on the trading ships of the 1700 and 1800s! Interesting shaded courtyards in these restored buildings house shopping arcades. Exploring is fun - there is treasure at every turn! Gold workers craft unique hook bracelets for ladies and gents - each style with its own folklore and traditions. Perfumeries delight the senses, and the wallet with duty-free prices! Watches, gemstones, artwork, hand painted island clothing, even walk-in humidors at the tobacconist make a shopping outing an interesting adventure. There's more great news - the currency is the US dollar, so no troublesome conversions. The prices are duty-free, there's no haggling, and there's no sales tax.! U.S. citizens are each allowed $1,200 duty-free, but locally made goods, such as artwork and hand-wrought jewelry, are exempt and don't even count towards your $1,200. And be sure to shop for great savings on liquor -- those 21 or older can take 5 fifths back duty-free, and a sixth if its one of the locally made rums Shops are open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 PM. Not on Sunday, thank you!
Transportation
Although the island is small, 26 miles long and 8 miles wide at the widest point it doesn’t mean that you can walk everywhere. Roads are generally two lanes, curvy and people often have to stop for the occasional goat, chicken or person crossing the road. Drivers must be at least 25 years of age to rent a car with a major credit card. Always remember to drive on the left!

Taxis
If you have no plans to go off the beaten path you should be able to get around easily by taxi. Most drivers accept only cash so be sure to ask the fare before getting in so that you will have the appropriate money. Taxis are readily available at the airport. Drivers should post approved fares set by the Taxi Commission. There are no meters and charges are determined by zones.
Wedding Information
The U.S. Virgin Islands require no marriage blood tests. American couples need only fill out a two-page form, pay a $50 license fee, and observe an eight-day posting period. It can be done through a local wedding planner, thus eliminating an on-island waiting period. To ensure that everything runs smoothly, start planning a minimum of two months ahead, or even longer if you're thinking big.
