vacation rental description

Come to the PONDEROSA for ultimate relaxation. A beautiful two story
log home at 4900 feet of
elevation in the mountains of Maggie Valley, North Carolina, on Balsam
Mountain. A serene private
woodsy home on 1.25 acres with wonderful view. Be in remote privacy
and feel the stress flow out of
you.
Sit in the HOT TUB ( new hot tub purchased 2010) under covered deck sit  and rock your cares away.  Back deck with 6 rocking chairs and hot tub.  No houses are visible from back deck, only woods , wonderful long range and valley views. Both bird feeder and hummingbird feeder on back porch.   Also with second uncovered porch in front with 4 chairs.  Can view few houses only from driveway area.  Ponderosa has recent extensive DVD movie selection.  AIR HOCKEY and FOOSBALL available,  take a 20 minutes hike to Smoky Mountains, roast marshmallows at the FIREPIT.  Feel like you are camping at the firepit which is down a path. Or just plain relax. The chipmunks, hummingbirds, and Carolina wrens also like to visit the Ponderosa. A couple times of the year Edgar the elk stops by for a visit. That is what my guest named the elk. There are numerous hummingbirds during summer months.Once at the Ponderosa, you are away from civilization with total
peacefulness. The temperature at
the Ponderosa averages a minimum 10 degrees cooler than the valley.
Open the windows for fresh air,
but if needed gas heat or AC available. Wireless internet is available
on porches and throughout
house for those that like to surf the internet and be with nature at
same time.
Road is a hard surface dirt/gravel with steep access for 0.5 mile. Total length of  road is 1.3 mile. Would  recommend all wheel drive for inclement weather ie snow. ( Snow usually falls in Jan, Feb, March)  I have used my Camry  many times over the years. Front wheel drive is needed in summer months.  The road does have guardrail on initial 0.3 mile of road.  Please if need more pictures, have a letter with pictures ready to send out, just ask for it. thanks!

For family reunions on a mountain top , please ask about next door neighbor property available called Smoky Sunrise.  Please note : minimum age to rent condo is 25 years old. If 21 to 25 years old, I consider on individual basis but increase returnable security deposit to $225.

Amazing!

Such a late review...but I'm putting it up now! The road up was rough, yes, but do not let that discourage you!! It is worth this Heaven on Earth. My now fiance proposed to me at the fire pit on Thursday September 1st 2011. I cannot imagine a more beautiful, relaxing, wonderful place to get proposed to. It was so romantic! We plan on coming there for our honeymoon(hopefully late April-May 2012) for a while longer than we were able to stay this time. I cannot get enough of this place. Looking at our pictures makes my heart ache. I miss the hummingbirds and the chipmunks...I was not able to see the elk though. On our last morning there I saw 2 dogs on the driveway(maybe those were the 2 dogs that were lost since we left on the 4th of September?). I must say thank you to the hostess for a very well stocked kitchen. We forgot creamer for our coffee the first morning, but tackled the road and went into town. I also suggest going to the bookstore in town and purchasing the Moonshiner's Daughter...it is a tough book but very good...and you can meet the writer! Other than going into town for a few things, we never left this "cabin"(as my fiance called it, but I corrected him. This place is HUGE!!) As much as I went up to the Smokies as a kid, I cannot remember a better place I stayed in, or a better time that was had. Our hearts are up there and we hope to move away from the city and live in the mountains for the rest of our lives. Thank you for sharing this amazing place with us!

This was the best vacation I have ever had. Though the road up the mountain was stressful, it was well worth the trip. The view was spectacular. The cabin was like stepping into a different world. It was so comfortable and inviting, we felt right at home. It had everything that you would need and more. The hot tub was very relaxing and the air hockey table was great fun. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get away from it all. The road up to the mountain was very steep and bumpy, but our Mitsubishi Galant made it up every time. Would recommend Mason's sapphire and ruby mine in Franklin, it was great fun. Of course, check out the Biltmore House and Jarrett House and taste some of the local fare, such as Joey's Pancake House and Maggie Valley Restaurant. There are multiple areas to check out on the Blue Ridge Parkway and wonderful waterfalls in Pisgah Forest National Park. But in the end, what I would recommend the most, watching the sunrise and sunset from the back porch of the cabin; simply breathtaking. Paula was very accomodating and very easy to work with. A word of advice, if you take a pet, please keep a close eye on them. There are a lot of different smells and sights and they could get away from you quickly. We came across a couple who were staying on the mountain and they had lost their two dogs, it was heartbreaking. All in all, I would highly recommend staying at this cabin. It was absolutly wonderful.

Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at your
home. It was just what the doctor ordered - peacefulness and
tranquility. We didn't do anything for the first three days but sit
on the porch and take in the view. Our friends asked us if we were
out looking at the scenery and we replied that it didn't get any
better than our porch. Finally about Saturday we went gem mining,
horseback riding and sightseeing. But the mountain kept drawing us
back so we usually weren't gone but a few hours. Everything about
your home was perfect for a vacation getaway. We even loved the
drive up - I guess some people just don't have an adventuresome spirit!

Thanks again for everything.
