I have been using VRBO for years, and this is the first time I have given a review of less than five stars. I would give the management company Southern Belle Vacation Rentals 0 stars and the rental unit 3 stars. On the morning of our departure, we went downstairs to begin loading our car. When we tried to re-enter the unit to get the rest of our belongings, the access code no longer worked even though it was 1.5 hours before our check-out time. We called Southern Belle repeatedly and left messages on two phone numbers—one from their website and one which the owner of Southern Belle, Walt Freeman, had previously provided me. We were not able to get in touch with them for well over an hour. When Walt finally returned my call, his attitude towards me was hostile and angry. He told me I should have called the "emergency" number on the website. When I later looked at the website, I saw that I had called the only number listed. I was unable to find any other phone numbers for Southern Belle other than the two numbers I called. We were finally able to get into the unit when Walt provided me with a different, much longer code. As to the unit itself, during our three day stay, we could hear a constant beeping from a nearby building, which was extremely annoying. Although the unit appeared to be clean, when we went to run the dishwasher, there was no dishwasher detergent, which made me question the cleanliness of the dishes we had been eating off of. While I enjoyed Savannah, I would advise others to avoid renting from Southern Belle.

Very comfortable and excellent value

We stayed here for just over a week when unexpected circumstances required us to extend our stay in Savannah. The apartment was comfortable, pleasant, clean and well maintained and had everything we needed. The full kitchen, with a view out over a pretty courtyard, made it a pleasure to prepare meals, the bed was comfortable, and the washer and dryer came in very handy under the circumstances. A code was provided for the entrance, which made check in easy. Street parking, should you have a car, was plentiful and never a problem. Wifi worked great. Heat is provided by separate units in the bedroom and living room, and made the apartment toasty even on a couple of very cold days. The apartment is sunny and cheerful - even nicer, I think, than the pictures depict. The private entrance is up a set of stairs that you enter behind a gate from a typical Savannah back alley, hence a "carriage house." The alley itself is not as glamorous as some of the more beautiful big streets in Savannah, and this may account for the reasonable rate in comparison to some other apartments. This made the apartment a very good value, as you are still in a very convenient location - just a few blocks to the big Kroger grocery store, close to Forsyth Park, and an easy walk to all the squares and historical areas. We booked this apartment quickly in a stressful emergency situation, and could not have been more pleased.

awesome new year's stay

My wife and I had a long-needed and fabulous New Year's weekend getaway in Savannah. Carriage house was awesome and perfectly located within reasonable walking distance of River St. area. We'd love to stay there again.

Recommended for: sight seeing, romantic getaway
