Activities and Attractions

Bryson City is a quiet, restful getaway in the western mountains of 
North Carolina, away from crowds and congestion, in a beautiful 
natural setting.  Bryson City is located in Swain County, which is 
an 
unspoiled retreat rich with many outdoor activities.

Swain County is the home too much of the Great Smokey Mountain Park, 
the Nantahala River, one of the nation's most popular Whitewater 
venues, and beautiful Fontana Lake that is formed by Fontanna Dam, 
which is the highest dam east of the Rockies.  There is abundant 
fishing in cascading trout streams, great Biking, Horses and Hiking 
trails with spectacular mountain views. The area has beautiful 
mountain roadways, including the southern leg of the Blue Ridge 
Parkway. The historic Great Smokey Mountains Railroad rolls its way 
throughout much of the county.  The rich cultural heritage of the 
Cherokee Indians can be experienced.  For those who prefer a little 
excitement, Harrah’s Casino is located 12 miles away in nearby 
Cherokee.

Moreover, Bryson City's central location offers an endless array of 
day-trips to nearby Asheville, Gatlinburg, Cades Cove, Joyce Kilmer 
Forest, Cherohala Skyway, Chimney Rock and dozens of small towns and 
back roads throughout Western North Carolina and Eastern Tennessee.
