Santa Barbara is a playland of fun things to do in a friendly, paradisial setting cupped by ocean and mountains.  A couple of my personal favorite things to do is to hear music at the Santa Barbara Bowl (in summer and fall) -- the most magical music venue I've ever experienced.  My favorite restaurant is the Cafe Buenos Aires on State St., maybe because of the mojitos.  If you like to hike there is a trail that follows a river with a string of wonderful swimming holes.
