activities and attractions in Siesta Key Gulf Coast Central
The best in Beach Living.
Siesta Key is a barrier island off the central western coast of Florida. It is situated between Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
Siesta Key has three wonderful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico, where you can play, relax, or walk along the water's edge. Enjoy the sunshine and tropical breeze while you track the flight of pelicans and shorebirds, and keep an eye out for the playful dolphins. Fishing, shelling, swimming, parasailing, boating, snorkeling - take your pick. Or just sit back and relax, enjoying the view.
Siesta Key beaches are among the finest in the world. The powdery white sand stretches for miles and is breath-takingly beautiful - perfect for digging your toes into the white sand as you read the latest bestseller, walking along the shore with someone you love, enjoying the splendor of a glorious sunset, or indulging in a refreshing dip in the warm tropical Gulf of Mexico waters.
The bright, white sands of Siesta Key are 99% pure quartz and is always cool to the touch. Quartz is said to have magical healing powers. Maybe this is why the residents and visitors on the beaches of Siesta Key always seem so happy. Many come to Siesta’s pristine white sand to take in its mystical powers.
You might find something even a little more valuable than magical quartz in the sands of Siesta Key. Go west to Siesta Key’s Point of Rocks and you could just find a centuries old buried pirate’s treasure. Legend has it that the area at Point of Rocks was often visited by pirates burying treasure. Point of Rocks also happens to be hailed as the best snorkeling on the west coast of Florida!
Most of the action going on after dark on Siesta Key will be found in Siesta Village ('The Village'), where there is a handful of restuarants, cafes, bars and pubs, all in keeping with the island's tropical flavor. Enjoy a delicious meal or just grab a cone at Big Olaf's home-made ice cream stand - either way, you'll enjoy a stroll through the Village with its many shops. World-class volley ball tournaments, craft shows, art exhibitis, and food and wine tastings are just a few of the many scheduled annual events that occur in the Village. On Siesta Key, you are on island time, so slow down, unwind, and stroll thru the beautiful tropical village.
Siesta Key tends to offer a quieter and more relaxed night out, so those requiring a little more liveliness and variety to their evenings would benefit from taking the short trip over into Sarasota (15 minutes drive away). Sarasota offers a more city-based night out, with an abundance of night clubs, bars and social hot spots. It’s ideal if you are in need of a ‘bigger’ night out.
And, if like to shop, St. Armands Key is only a 15 minutes drive away. St. Armands Key is an island shopping center removed from the bustle of the mainland by two bridges over magnificent Sarasota Bay. Unique in concept, history, and beauty, St. Armands provides an unforgettable experience for visitors from all over the world. More than 130 stores on St. Armands Circle pamper customers.
