Lady Slipper Getaway in Poland Spring

The perfect cozy cabin

My husband and I could not have been happier with our stay at the Lady Slipper Getaway cottage. We were supposed to arrive on the same day as Hurricane Irene, but owners Jim and Jodi were kind enough to suggest that we come up a day earlier at no extra charge to avoid being washed out on our drive up to the cabin. The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, remote but not isolated; there were neighbors down the road and on the lake but we always had plenty of quiet and privacy. The cabin is beautifully maintained, the amenities provided are all we could have asked for, and the cabin is laid out in such a way that the lake is visible from the living room and kitchen windows, and a potbellied stove is enough to heat the whole house (though I believe there is a radiator system as well). My husband and I slept in the bed on the main floor, mostly because I am very pregnant and can't safely climb ladders to the sleeping lofts -- but those sleeping lofts are absolutely a young kid's dream come true, and we hope to use them in the future!
The outdoor fire pit is well maintained and safe - my only and very small complaint is that the lights on the outside of the house, over the fire pit, do not work, so if you grill too late in the evening it can be hard to see your food well enough to eat it!
What seems to be the only restaurant in Poland, Maine is accessible by driving just up the road from the cabin or by boating to the north end of the lake. There are lots of great hikes and lovely towns, as well as Sebago Lake, nearby, and we had a particularly great time visiting the Pride's Corner Drive-In Theater.
All in all, we greatly enjoyed our stay at the Lady Slipper Getaway cottage, would wholeheartedly recommend it to a friend, and hope to make a tradition of coming back to visit with our little one(s) in the future.
