vacation rental description
Custom home built by the owner in 2004, taken from the design of an old historic carriage barn. Located on a hill in an old orchard, it has great views of the Green Mountains and the surrounding area. This is a quiet neighborhood made up of rural estates and small operating farms and orchards. Middlebury College and the town is only 5 minutes away. There are 3 levels to the house, with the main living area on the 2nd floor. Light filled great room with windows in every direction, including the open cupola from above. This is a great space for a large family gathering or couples quiet getaway; also perfect as an artists retreat or for a group of skiers, riders, hikers and outdoors enthusiasts. In the winter there's warm radiant heat under hardwood and travertine floors. No drafty old farmhouse or poorly built condo here. Everything is custom made including some of the furniture. The main level on the 2nd floor has an open kitchen with soapstone counter and stainless appliances, dining and living area; and a master bedroom. The main bathroom has a built in washer, dryer and a large walk in travertine shower. This level also has a large open deck with patio furniture and bbq grill. The upper loft has two spaces separated by a curved balcony. The south end is for reading and relaxing with a large couch and a desk and a printer. The north end of the loft has two full size beds tucked well out of the way for a good nights sleep. The ground floor entry was made for people of the outdoors with built in cubbies and storage spaces for stowing ski gear, snowshoes and backpacks. This level also has an extra bedroom with a queen bed and a futon. There is also a full bath located just off this bedroom. This is a great house to relax, read, write, party, paint or create. It's also a great jumping off place for a variety of outdoor activities.

activities and attractions in Middlebury Vermont
Middlebury is in the heart of the Champlain Valley. The college town offers great restaurants, galleries, shopping, theatre and movies. Cultural and sporting action always close at hand. Several recreational areas and ski resorts are all less than 45 minutes away - but you won't need to stay in a cramped condo at the end of the day. Winter and summer climbing in the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks are superb. Lake Champlain is 10 minutes away. Burlington is 45 minutes with all the good things a small city has to offer. There's never enough time to do everything this area has to offer. I've lived in the area for 30 years and still find more unique things to do.
