BOOK NOW for the 2015 Open Golf Championship - 13-19 July 2015

Our exceptional 4-star graded, 2-bedroomed Park Apartment is within Pilrig House, an A-listed, 17th-century Scottish townhouse (built in 1638), which has a distinguished history and a wonderful literary connection - it was the home of Robert Louis Stevenson's mother's family - as a child, RLS often visited and played in the gardens here as a child - he mentions Pilrig House in his novels: Kidnapped and Catriona.

Unique Park Location

The apartment is sited in a tranquil park, yet, incredibly, it is only a 15-20 minute stroll (just over a mile), or 5 minutes by bus (bus stop is only minutes away from the apartment) to Edinburgh's city centre and all the main attractions. Enjoy the private garden, which offers secluded seating areas and is teeming with wildlife.

A Gem of an Apartment - Your Home-Away-From Home

Guests have exclusive use of the house’s sweeping Palladian staircase entrance, at the top of which are double oak doors and a small seating area, a south-facing suntrap overlooking the park - wonderful for sipping a glass of wine and watching the world drift by at the end of busy days' sightseeing! Or, dine in all seasons with the doors flung open and drink in the changing weather and landscape...

The Accommodation

The interior is extremely comfortable and has a beautiful mix of antique and modern furnishings, comprising: living-room with oak flooring & Persian rug, real-flame effect fire, designated dining area, two leather sofas, coffee-table, bookcases full of books and DVDs, and recessed window seat with delightful views of the park; 2 bedrooms - 1 single, 1 double (fully carpeted and equipped with hairdryers) with wonderfully comfortable beds and luxury mattress toppers, fitted wardrobes, chest of drawers and dressing-table, bedside cabinets/lamps, alarm clock, adjustable heaters, US adapter plug) - both bedrooms have park views; a fully-equipped kitchen (see amenities); and, a luxurious, fully-tiled bathroom with deep curved bath, toilet, wash-hand basin, shower screen and glass shower over the bath, full-length heated towel rail and shaver point.

Free Parking

Rare for city center rentals, Pilrig House offers the bonus of a FREE allocated parking space in a safe private car park to the rear of the house.

Included in the Price - NO add-on/hidden costs!

Fine bedlinen, Egyptian cotton towels, all utilities, and, on arrival: refreshment tray, fresh flowers, chocolates, fruit bowl & crystal decanter of whisky; luxury Scottish toiletries; fluffy towelling robes & slippers; full Welcome Pack plus Places to Visit, Restaurant & Edinburgh Tour Packs, up-to-date Tourist Information file; telephone (FREE local/national calls & call minda telephone answer service), Pilrig House postcards, bookmarks & stationery; a selection of books/ Edinburgh guidebooks & maps, AA-Touring Atlas, binoculars, board games, library of CDs/DVDs, and many other thoughtful extras.

Our Reviews

We could add hundreds of our own Guestbook reviews - 'Owner-Added Reviews', but we have chosen not to do so. We prefer that previous guests add them and star-grade us - that way you will have total confidence in their authenticity! On our own website, you can also read over 150 additional independent guest reviews and read through a large sample of comments left in the Apartment's Guestbook.

Booking Conditions

Open all year. The apartment is non-smoking, but you are welcome to smoke outside, and, sorry, no pets.

Payment

For bookings of 7 nights or less, we ask for payment on booking. For bookings exceeding 7 nights, we ask for 50% payment on booking, and 50% 8 weeks before your stay. On completing a Booking Form via our website, we send you a Booking Confirmation, followed by a secure online payment request via CardSave (you can pay by credit or debit card).

Cancellation Policy

We ask all prospective guests to complete a Booking Form via our own website, and that they read our Conditions of Rental page before doing so. The cancellation policy is clearly stated on that page.

Rates

Please view our highly competitive nightly & reduced rates on our owner's website (we feel it is disingenuous to show 'per person per night' rates that do not convey the true min. price of a stay). And, there are absolutely no extra add-on taxes or 'hidden' charges.

Discounts (on nightly rates) for longer stays:

2 weeks - 15%

3 weeks - 20%

4 weeks or more - 25% (we are flexible and may offer a greater discount if in low season - do ask!)

We also offer all solo travellers a 10% discount on our nightly rates!

If the Park Apartment is booked, please DO look at our other two apartments, there may be availability, and if only 1 or 2 people staying, we can offer a discounted rate for our Balfour Apartment!

traveler reviews for this edinburgh apartment rental

Pilrig House, the Park Apartment and Phillip & Debbie are spectacular...just spectacular!

Review submitted: May 5, 2014   Date of arrival: April 20, 2014

It’s my pleasure to write this review of Pilrig House and it’s owners Phillip & Debbie. This was our first time renting a holiday apartment and we couldn’t have had a better experience. Pilrig House overlooks Pilrig Park, which provided terrific beauty and tranquility in the midst of the bustling city. The Park Apartment is charming, comfortable and cozy. Phillip & Debbie have seen to every detail; the apartment is extremely well appointed with lovely linens, luxurious soaps & lotions and an extensive collection of books, movies and music. We very much appreciated the complimentary supply of coffee, tea, milk, biscuits and fudge. Every amenity is in perfect working order and the apartment is in awesome condition and extremely clean. Phillip & Debbie made themselves immediately available in the event we needed them and were more than willing to share their extensive list of attractions, restaurants and shops with us. Pilrig House is perfectly located within comfortable walking distance to most of Edinburgh’s “must sees”. The House is also closely situated near city bus stops. The description, narrative and photos provided in this rental listing are completely accurate. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Edinburgh and Scotland; Pilrig House, the Park Apartment and Phillip & Debbie are spectacular…just spectacular!

Recommended for: age 55+, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Thank you so much Jeff! As guests, you were also spectacular! Delighted you enjoyed your week here in Edinburgh, and your tours with our driver service, Mike - who also passes on his greetings. It was a pleasure to be hosts to you and your family, and to see the photos of Spencer enjoying his 'falconry' experience when he was here. Hope we see you back. Debbie x

Wonderful "home base"

Review submitted: April 20, 2014   Date of arrival: April 2, 2014

Thank you so much Phillip for providing us with such a wonderful "home base". It was so nice to have such a beautiful place to return to after wandering the city, country side, getting lost, and visiting the typical tourist attractions. Thank you for kindly discouraging our considerably "overbooked" itinerary. We cancelled all our plans and would decide what to do the night before. We had such a great time traveling by bus, train and considerable miles logged by walking. We have so many wonderful memories. Thank you for all your advice, history lessons, sense of humor, and kindness. It was nice to know that in the back of our brain, you would always be there to rescue us if we got lost…we figured that out when we were walking down Pilrig Street and you stopped and asked us if we needed a ride.
The apartment was amazing. We never expected such magnificent accommodations and fresh flowers in the bathroom! I moved them to the living room so I could see them all the time. There was plenty of everything, from tourist information to teas and fruit and whisky, and of course DVDs. I don't think there is a DVD that you don't have. Thank you for the umbrellas as well. After spending all day out and about, this was such a wonderful retreat to return to.
We visited Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace…all the typical attractions…Arthur's Seat etc. We took the bus to Roslin Chapel (amazing), another day took the train to Stonehaven and walked along the shore to Dunottar Castle (again, amazing). We walked to the Botanical Garden and returned by walking down the walkway along the canal into Leith. We logged many miles on a daily basis, and thoroughly enjoyed every step. We got incredibly lost after missing our bus, on our way home from Blackness Castle. We ended up on the John Muir trail and the kindness of strangers helped us set our path straight and got us to the bus station and back on the train. We decided to stop at the Balmoral and have a Gin and Tonic after that adventure! Everyday was fun, exciting and truly memorable. Thank you for everything and giving us such a wonderful "home base".

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: Dear Laura & Ronald,
As I hd flu when you were here and was 'absent' and now my dear hubby has it and it befalls me to reply on his behalf - thank you so much for your tribute to Philip (and to the friendliness of our fellow Scots|) - it is really meaningful to know his, and others, input was appreciated & made me proud of my wonderfully original hubby!
It sounds as if you had a really interesting time here and let the rigidity of the 'itinerary' melt away and experiences happen - always a good thing in our book - that's when the unexpected little bits of magic blossom and encounters have the space to emerge, as you obviously found - that gin & tonic in Balmoral sounded lovely...
Till we meet again... Hope we do....Debbie & Philip

Above and Beyond...

Review submitted: October 13, 2013   Date of arrival: August 31, 2013

My friend and I traveled to the UK for a month this past summer and stayed at three different rental homes (on Loch Ness, Edinburgh & London). We spent 9 days, in the middle of our trip, at Pilrig House. Unfortunately (wink, wink), the standards set by the hosts of this particular place spoiled us terribly and made the two other rentals pale by comparison. All of the raves and effusive comments written by every one of the reviewers here are 100% accurate, and so I won’t repeat all the merits about the apartment, its location, comfort, etc. What everyone else said: All True!

Instead, I’d like to write about the remarkable personal care and attention of Phillip and (in our particular case) Debbie. Others have remarked at great length about their care, but this really was something else. In the middle of my stay I needed to see a doctor and emailed Debbie at night to ask for a recommendation. She phoned immediately to ask if I needed any OTC medicine or assistance. She offered to phone her clinic at 8 the next morning, and made an appointment for me. She drove us there at the appointed time, and picked us up afterwards. I needed to go to a larger hospital across town and she drove us there. Because hospitals only accept cash from non-residents, and I wasn’t sure if I had enough, Debbie stopped at an ATM and withdrew the daily limit, handing me an envelope of £350. Can you IMAGINE? I was just flabbergasted, and I continue to tell the story. Above and beyond, indeed! There are so many more stories of their kindness and generosity (a surprise, and very generous, birthday gift & card, left on the front steps one morning; the loan of a GPS--the car rental co. wanted £15 a day for it; secretly helping my sister-in-law plan a BIG birthday surprise in Edinburgh, from Florida... and MORE), but you’ll see this all for yourself when you come to stay at their lovely apartment. I envy you that...

ps. Oh, and one more thing to add... The front door of the house, pictured in the main photo, is YOUR front door, exclusively. How exciting that was! Not even sure where the other inhabitants of the house enter and exit, but it made us feel very special, walking out of that door, down those steps and out into the beautiful park in front of it every day. Lovely!

Owners response: You were 'Above and Beyond' as nice people - come back any time, and have a 'non-hospital stay' - we'd love to see you again. Best to you both,

Debbie x
