Family Fun:

The Happy Pelican has over 1,980 square feet of tastefully decorated living space. There are two large decks overlooking the canal and 4 bedroom balconies 2 of which have ocean views.

Save hundreds of dollars in equipment rentals as the owners leave all their toys for you to play with.  Bikes, kayaks, inflatable boats, fishing and crabbing gear, beach games and beach equipment are provided for your enjoyment.

The perfect vacation rental property awaits your family and friends. This 4 Bedrooms + Loft/Den with 2.5 Baths sleeps 12-14.

The property is on the canal and located on a direct beach access street. Just a 3 minute walk or 30 second drive and you are on the beach enjoying a fun day in the sun on wide, clean uncrowded beaches. The water is warm June through October and very clean. Swim in the surf, sunbathe, play beach games, build sandcastles, stroll the beach looking for shells, try surf fishing, the fun activities are many.

We have beach chairs, blankets, umbrellas, coolers, reusable icepacks, and picnic baskets for lounging on the beach. For beach fun, beach balls, Frisbees, and games are available for your use. When you get back from a fun day at the beach, rinse off the sand in the house’s outdoor hot shower.

Bring your boat or Jet Ski and dock it on the private deep water canal behind the house. Great boating and fishing await you. For boaters the house has a great nautical location.

Private pilots bring your plane. Fly into OIB's own airport just a 5 minute drive from the house.

Sleeping Accommodations:

There are 4 large, tastefully decorated, bedrooms and a loft spaced far apart for privacy. The bed configuration is:

BR1 -One queen size bed

BR2 -1 Queen and 1 twin bed

BR3 – 1 Queen bed and 1 twin bed

BR4 - 1 Queen and 1 twin bed

Loft with a sleeper sofa and 1 twin bed that sleeps 2-3.

There are 2 large bathrooms, one with a double sink. The baths are adjacent to the bedrooms and there is a half bath off the livingroom area for convenience.

All Bedrooms have cable TV and plenty of draw and closet space.

Eating and Dining:

When you don’t feel like going out for dining, the Happy Pelican’s well equipped kitchen is ready for cooking. A full compliment of cooking equipment is available for your use. There is even a food processor and bread machine.

There is plenty of seating in the large dining area with additional seating at the kitchen breakfast bar and you can't beat outdoor dining on the deck.  A park style BBQ grill and Picnic table for canal side dining makes for great BBQ meals.

Entertaining and Living Area:

For entertaining, there is a large open living room with a bar area and entertainment center. There is a TV, DVD, VCR, a collection of movies and books for all ages. There are games galore for the family to enjoy, even poker chips and cards for a game of Texas Holdem. For the Kids, there is "Pelican’s Roost", a loft area set up for kid fun, far enough away for privacy from adults but within earshot of watchful parents.

Decks:

There are two spacious decks offering a splended veiw of the town, dock and canal system. Out door dining furniture on the main deck makes for a wonderful meal any time of day. The upper deck has chase lounges and is fantastic for peaceful evening retreats and star gazing. The evening breezes are very enjoyable on this level.

There is so much to do in OIB.  On the ground level is a toy room stocked with toys for the beach, kayaks, rafts, beach chairs, fishing and crabbing gear, bikes, out door games, and lots more. 

The beach, just a short walk away from the house, is amoung the widest on the island. It is accessed by a boardwalk (no steps) ramp making it easy to roll our beach cart filled with toys, coolers, and beach equipment onto the beach. This access has a lovely dune and a gazebo for sitting and watching the wildlife.

The dock is great for swiming, crabbing, fishing, and docking your boat or jetski.  Don't have a boat, the house comes with two 2 person kayaks and 2 inflatable boats.  The dock has a ladder for easy swimming access. The dock is also well equiped to handle boats up to 35 feet in length.  Our house, nautically, is located just a minute or two by boat from the ICW and 10 minutes from open water.

Located close to Myrtle Beach and Wilmington, many nearby site seeing opportunities await.  See a battleship, visit the Silver Coast Winery, visit many museums, shop while strolling "Broadway at the Beach." There are also many nature preserves in the area as well.

Dining both on and off the island is a treat. You will find no shortage of restaurants featuring every kind of dining experience.  Of course a dinner outing to nearby Calabash is a must for unique seafood cooking.

Golfer's note:

Brunswick County is known as North Carolina's Golf Coast. It is home to 30 golf courses with more in nearby Myrtle Beach. This lures golfers from around the globe to Brunswick County, NC.
