Lewis Bear Crossing Lodge in Ruidoso

Come be our Guests at the Fabulous LEWIS BEAR CROSSING LODGE in beautiful Ruidoso New Mexico.

You can often see the deer and elk roam freely on the mountainside above this spacious 5 bedroom - 2 bath home located in the historical upper canyon of Ruidoso,  New Mexico in the Eastern Foothills of the Rocky Mountains.  Even brown bears can be seen crossing Main Road as they go to the beautiful Ruidoso River for a cool drink of crystal clear water.  In fact, you can sit on the upper deck of  this amazing vacation property and hear the song of the Ruidoso River as it meanders it's way down the canyon. Ruidoso means “Noisy” in Spanish  and this “Noisy River”  certainly does live up to its name.  You can easily walk to the river - just a stone’s throw away.

If you listen closely,(and use your imagination)  you might hear the sounds of Billy the Kid and his outlaw gang who frequented this area as they had gun battle after gun battle in the famous Lincoln County Wars of the 1800's. We’ve heard that Billy had a hideout not far away further up the Canyon on what is now the Apache Indian Reservation.   Look closely and you might even see Sheriff Pat Garrett in hot pursuit.  You know, It was Pat Garrett who finally shot and killed Billy just down the road “a piece” in nearby Lincoln,  New Mexico.      

Relax at our home in Ruidoso?   I doubt it – not if you want to have fun.

The Lewis family would love to have  you come as our as our Guests.  The three living areas and spacious rooms make it perfect for large parties - up to 16 can sleep in beds.  But if you can’t bring 16 don’t count us out because we’ll make arrangement for smaller parties too.  It’s just a great place to stay.  Come see us when you can - we know you will enjoy your stay.

We love Ruidoso New Mexico.  In fact, we have another property just up the canyon that is a duplex with 3 bedrooms/1 bath on one side and 2bedrooms/1 bath on the othr.  Check out that property too.  Our personal second residence is also in the Upper canyon not far away.  Ruidoso  -  It's a great place in the fall, winter spring or summer.

Our wonderful vacation home offers a breath taking view of Sierra Blanca Peak from the upper deck. Sierra Blanca  towers  more than 12,000 feet above sea level and can be easily seen to the Northwest.  The snow pack in the winter can be seen from miles and miles away.   This property in the Prestigious Upper Canyon of Ruidoso,  is over 9,000 feet itself and provides cool nights to enjoy the large corner wood burning fireplace - and sunny days for the sports enjoyment of every vacationer.

This property,  nestled in the tall pines, offers enjoyment for every season.  From snow skiing and snowboarding  at nationally known Sierra Blanca Ski Resort  to tubing at the lower runs, in the winter;  to horse racing at Ruidoso Downs, home of the All American Futurity, the “Worlds Richest Quarter Horse Race,  in the Summer, there is plenty to keep you busy. There is also casino gambling at Billy the Kid Casino and at the  world famous Inn of the Mountain Gods,   to provide plenty of opportunities to test your luck.  There is also golf at a number of local courses including the championship links at the Inn. 

 There is also great trout fishing in the area.  The Ruidoso River is only 50 yards away from  your front door.  The River is regularly stocked with rainbow and brown trout.  The avid fisherman  can easily catch their limit with fly, spinner, or regular bait.  Grindstone lake is  actually just over the mountain top - but still only 15 minutes away by car.  What a scenic spot to test your angling skills.  Benito lake is another favorite  which  is about 30 minutes away.- simply beautiful – the location for the old TV series,  Grizzly Adams.   There are numerous other smaller lakes in the immediate area and each one is regularly stocked and each offers pure enjoyment for the fisherman.

There is also an assortment of other mountain sports.  From hiking to mountain biking the are local establishments to guide you or you can strike out on your own;   And when evening falls there is an excellent night live in Ruidoso.  Mountain Annies is only 15 minutes away at Midtown and offers great dining with onsite entertainment. Spencer theater in Alto N.M. is about 30 minutes away.  You will be amazed at all the big named entertainers who  appear there regularly.  Like Steaks?  The Texas Club is a must  - I like their  rib-eye the best.  Add in all the other restaurants and bars  and your evening entertainment in Ruidoso will not be a problem
