activities and attractions in Bar Harbor Maine

Sail up to the house (you will need a dinghy to get to beach), on this pristine shore with edible mussels. Free Island Explorer bus stops right outside the driveway during peak season (consult their web-site for schedule). Within walking distance of historic Salisbury Cove and 1.5 miles from Acadia National Park Hulls Cove entrance.  Seven minutes by car from Hancock County airport, one hour from Bangor.  Pirate's Cove mini-golf down the road as well as Mainley Meats (Bar-B-Que), Bay Gulls bagels and deserts and ice-cream and the Trenton Lobster Pound (other direction).  You can fish in the ocean without a license or get a license and fish on Hamilton Pond which is  within walking distance.  If you are familiar with kayaks, paddle across the way to the MDI Biolab and float through the stone arch at high tide (see picture), or paddle further around the point and picnic in the "Ovens" which are shallow waterside caves with pebble beaches, best at low tide.

In a boat, you can sail or motor to docks in Bar Harbor or drive (7 minutes) to town.

The Hulls Cove entrance to Acadia National Park is 2 miles away.  Drive there, bike there or take the bus (you can put your bikes on the front grill of the bus).  Ranger programs, hiking on graded paths up the mountain or biking or walking on the carriage trails (no cars) are fun things to do.  You can swim in a lake with a lifeguard or dare the "Ledges" and enter Echo Lake by the cliff.

Local church is Eden Baptist Church. Jazzercise classes are in the social hall.

Kebo Valley golf Club is a historic course in Bar Harbor.  Lessons, pro shop are up to date.  Other, local golf courses also close-by.

In Ellsworth a seasonal locomotive takes visitors on a scenic ride.

Restaurants for every taste abound from the Chart House, a sea-side fish house, to Havana's, a latin restaurant with a wine list of note, to Epi's a downtown cafeteria, to Nostranos, a private Italian restaurant.

During July and August music abounds with the Bar Harbor Music Festival (with live opera) and the Northeast Harbor Chamber series.  Repertory theater( good) and the local cinema are where the locals hang out.

I can help suggest dining and activities for you including activities for kids.

The view from the yard is stunning. I can't believe our time is coming to an end. Our experience here will bring fond memories for a long time to come.

Eight of us journeyed from all over to meet

Review submitted: August 12, 2014   Date of arrival: September 22, 2013

We met in this beautiful place. We all will remember it for years to come and dream of being able to continue the tradition. The major take away for us is that the house can be as spectacular as the people you share it with.

Thanks for the use of the kayaks!

Review submitted: August 12, 2014   Date of arrival: June 22, 2014

Loved Havana, Cleonice and McKay's-thanks for the recommendations! But make reservations. Naturalist's Notebook in Seal Harbor is a sweet little shop, good for kids to kill time on a rainy day(even our teens loved it). Jeannie's Great Maine breakfast was open before 6 am-nice stop after sunrise on Cadillac.
