Reunion / Vacation 2011

Brenda (Asheville, NC)
Review submitted: May 24, 2011   Date of arrival: May 14, 2011

I just want to say that we had a GREAT time at the beach. From Check-in to Check-out.

The great parts:

The beds were very comfortable and I actually slept better here than at home! This house is spacious and there is room for an entire family and more.
All of the amenities were provided. This was a big plus. Fresh linens, towels and even shampoo and soap!
The laundry room was clean and the washer/dryer worked great.
The dishwasher is first rate. Watch out those dishes are hot when heat dried! The air conditioner worked wonderfully.
All of the TV's worked and had extensive programming, we were also able to plug in a Wii.

The dining room table seats 8! It was our favorite spot to gather and break bread together!

There is not hot tub but instead, there is a whirlpool bath tub in the master bedroom which has jets. It's nice, but not when you were expecting hot tub fun with multiple people.

The pool was clean and we enjoyed it daily. There were pool toys and floating devices. The outside shower has running hot water as well as cold.

A few things that could be improved:

The DVD player did not work. It would not read any disc.

The "water" dispenser outside of the spacious side-by-side fridge did not work, however, the ice maker worked well and I especially liked the crushed feature.

As someone else mentioned, there are a few broken screens on the porch and some of the reclining pool chairs are broken. The fountain is an eyesore and inoperable. I would rather see these things fixed or replaced.

The gas grill settings need to be adjusted. We could only manage a high setting. We only used it once during our visit.

Overall, we had a wonderful Reunion/Vacation 2011 and would definately consider becoming a member of the "comeback club"!! Close to the beach and a short drive to Charleston makes this a perfect spot to take it all in.

Thank you for allowing us to stay in your home!!!

Great stay in a great home at a great location.

I usually do not write reviews but felt I would be doing a disservice to others by not letting you know what a great home this is. I have never had an easier time renting a vacation home and the owner was very helpful and easy to communicate with. The house was all he promised it to be and much more. Upon our arrival, I never felt more at home. Everything to make an enjoyable week was right at our fingertips. The convenience of the beach, pool and local establishments made for a relaxing break from our busy lives. The home was clean, towels and linens were fresh and the beds slept like a dream. If things go well, we will be staying there again in the future. Thank you for a great vacation:)

Neglected & Run-Down Rental

luv2go (portland)
Review submitted: August 6, 2010   Date of arrival: June 19, 2010

This was the most disappointing vacation rental EVER. We are seasoned travelers and have used VRBO many times, but this experience gives me pause to do so again. The photos are deceptive and the property has not been maintained or kept up in what looks like 10-15 years. Here is a SHORT list of the problems we had:

Upon arrival, the garbage cans are full and very smelly.
There are several broken screens on the porch.
The downstairs room has a musty, bad smelling odor and the appliances (mini-fridge) are broken and detached in the cabinets.
The futon couch is broken, but not knowing that, it fell apart and landed on an adult's foot when trying to set it up as a bed. The seat of the futon is unattached and there are no bolts for the futon to be used safely in either position.
The reclining pool chairs are broken and one child was hit in the head with the broken head shade.
The fountain is an eyesore, with electrical cords hanging down and debris in the reservoir.
The grills are in disrepair, with the gas grill not working at all and the charcoal grill falling apart.
There are no umbrellas for shade (either for pool or beach).
There are no working beach chairs.
There is debris, broken toys, and random junk strewn throughout the ground level outdoor space.
There are cobwebs and spiders all around the outdoor shower.
Neither overhead light works in the upstairs bedrooms.
In an upstairs bedroom the spread was covered with pet hair. When replaced, the 2nd spread had dried mucus on it.
The toilet paper holder broke off in the upstairs bathroom and the base remains exposed and is another safety hazard.
When placing a towel on a hook in the downstairs bedroom, the apparatus fell from the wall and hit a child on the leg.
In the kitchen, the oven does not have a capacity to broil and the stovetop does not get above medium heat.

If you are looking at this--BE WARNED!!

Owners response: The house was not cleaned well at all we fired the cleaning service since the cleaners neglected to clean the interior properly and neglected to clean outside in the pool area. The cleaning service also neglected to tell us about the needed repairs. Because of the poor cleaning service, we found a cleaning agency that does an excellent job of keeping the house clean and in good repair.

My wife and I are both in the Military and unfortunately we were both assigned out of state at the time. She was working with the Navy in Bethesda, MD and I was working overseas with the Saudi Air Force. We are both home now and have taken care of any of all the needed repairs.

We guarantee to insure the house is clean and fix anything that is not working properly during your stay. Looking forward to having you all down to our home away from home at the beach!
