The Retreat Country Cottage is located on Molasses Pond, an ideal vacation destination with its picturesque view of Sugar Hill and close proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Local residents rave about Molasses Pond -- it's one of the cleanest, most pristine lakes in the region. Off the beaten track, Molasses Pond is something of a well-kept secret with its serenity and natural beauty. Only 40 minutes by car from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, Molasses Pond provides a relaxing, tranquil "RETREAT" from civilization, yet is close enough to all the exciting area attractions like Scoodic and Cadillac Mountain. Just 20 minutes from Ellsworth’s prominent shopping district, if you want to take in a movie, shop till you drop or grab a lobster dinner, just jump in your car and you'll be in town in close to a New York minute.

Molasses Pond is a nature lover’s dream. Over 3 miles long and 10 miles in perimeter, the Pond is ideal for motor boating, water-skiing, canoeing, jet skis, kayaking and swimming.

Our newly renovated cottage features two large bedrooms, a full bath, country kitchen, spacious family room, screened-in porch and outdoor deck. Its modern amenities, including color TV, DVD player and phone and its functional décor make it the ideal rental for families or couples in search of a rustic, tranquil haven.

The Retreat cottage provides a full kitchen with coffeemaker, toaster, toaster oven microwave, electric stove and full refrigerator and is equipped with television and VCR, phone and, answering machine to give you all the comforts of home during your vacation. The cottage's land line can be used for dial-up Internet connectivity and to make and receive calls so you can stay connected to friends, family and work while you enjoy your relaxing stay.

The Retreat cottage is situated in a protected cove directly on the shore line of Molasses Pond, one of the cleanest, most pristine and most secluded lakes in the area. While referred to as a pond, it is actually more the size of a lake, measuring 3 ½ x 1 ½ miles in area. The pond has a gradual drop off which measures about 4 feet deep approximately 20 feet out from the shoreline of the cottage. The pond is stocked with trout and salmon and is an ideal location for both day and night fishing. In order to fish legally, you must acquire a fishing license.  Licenses can be purchased locally.

Local Attractions include: Fishing, sailing, water sports, seimming, hiking and biking, fine dining, movies, shopping . Acadia National Park is a 45 minute drive and BaxterState Park is 3 hours by car. Weekly rental is from Saturday 3:00 PM to Saturday 10:00 AM.  Rental fee includes use of cottage's rowboat, kayak and canoe and life vests, as well as phone line and answering machine.
