vacation rental description

Available Dates: This condo is only available from April 14-28, 2013. Full two week rental preferred, but please email for shorter stays.

The History

This listing is a little different from the others. Our condo, F-110, is a very special place. I say that because we’ve been calling it our 2nd home for many years. It has been a playground for one of our daughter’s young family, it’s been a honeymoon oasis for our other daughter, and it has been a retreat for us from the busy life we lead on the mainland. Without a doubt this unit is one of the nicest on the entire Papakea property.

The Condo

F-110 is a bottom, corner unit (which means it is larger and quieter than most). We completely renovated it in 2009 and spared no expense: granite, tile, furniture, bed, appliances… everything! The décor is tranquil yet boasts all the modern comforts of home.

This 1-bedroom unit can sleep 4 adults comfortably (2 in the bedroom, 2 on the pullout sofa). The new pullout is not the kind of sleeper you remember as a kid- it is extremely comfortable and has the added bonus of being able to hear the waves crashing just outside the door.

The floor-plan is light, bright, and open. It doesn’t hurt that the ocean is visible from almost every room either. The kitchen is large and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The living room has a huge sectional sofa that is great for napping or can accommodate many people comfortably. There are two walls of windows that allow you to see the ocean even when inside. The dining area easily seats 4+. The bedroom boasts a king sized bed and 2nd TV. The bathroom is beautiful with double sinks and a luxurious tiled shower. Having a washer and dryer in the unit allows you to pack lighter and to keep those beach towels dry all day long. And finally, the lanai… oh the lanai! It wraps around the front and side of the condo and provides the most perfect area from which to sip wine, watch the sunset, or to just kick back and soak it all in.

The View

The view doesn’t get better than this! During the day, you have an unobstructed view of the islands of Molokai and Lanai. At night, you have the perfect vantage point for watching magical sunsets. We’ve found that having direct access to the outside (without having to struggle with doors, shoes, or stairs) is priceless. The plush lawn off the lanai is almost like an extension of the condo itself… which is only 20 paces to the ocean (yes, I’ve counted!). Or walk out of the lanai, around the corner and arrive at one of the two pools/hot tubs on the property. And have I told you about the whales yet? Yeah- you will be able to watch them play right from the lanai. Don't forget to bring binoculars!

The Property

The Papakea Resort sits on 13 acres of abundant oceanfront property. Despite its size, it feels quite intimate and calm. You will never feel like you are overrun by people and you will always find a chair to lay out on by the pool. It is also one of the only resorts built so close to the ocean too! The grounds are meticulously landscaped with lots of lush grass, tropical flowers, and exotic fish ponds. It also has two large, crystal clear pools (1 heated, 1 not) and 2 oversized hot tubs. There are also mini golf courses, tennis courts, and shuffle boards available on premises.

Papakea is in an ideal location. It is on the beautiful west side of the island in the world famous Kaanapali area. It is a short 12 minute drive south to Lahaina town and approximately 15 minutes north to Kapalua. And most importantly, you are surrounded by beautiful Hawaiian beaches at every turn. There is a grocery store, Farmers Market, convenience store, restaurants, playground and shops just a short 2 to 5 minute walk from the condo.

activities and attractions in Kaanapali Maui

What can I say, it’s Maui- what isn’t there to do?

World-class snorkeling & scuba diving, swimming, yoga by the beach, sun bathing, surfing, boogie boarding, boating, shelling, sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing, whale watching, fishing, championship golfing, mini-golfing, hiking, jungle trekking, zip lining, rock climbing, horseback riding, sightseeing, tennis, biking, basketball, fitness center, wine tasting, shopping, world class restaurants, cultural events, shows, cinemas, museums… and that’s just what I can think of off the top of my head!

Want some budget-friendly ideas of things to do for the entire family so you don’t break than bank? Or a "hidden" car rental place that will save you bug bucks? Want to know where the best body surfing beach is? Or a beach that is so gentle that it safe for even for the littlest kiddos?  Then you are in luck! Since we’ve been going to the island of Maui for many, many years (and visit a few times each year) we know the island very well. If you book with us, I am more than happy to offer suggestions of places to go (and not go), things to do, things you shouldn’t miss, and a whole list of hidden gems that, unless you live on the island fulltime, you’d never know even existed.

traveler reviews for this kaanapali condo rental

We love this place.

Julie (Vancouver, BC)
Review submitted: February 11, 2013   Date of arrival: December 1, 2012

This place was perfect for our family of three. The property was clean, well-maintained, and very comfortable. The beds were great, and the kitchen and bathroom were just like home (only better!). The best part for us was the location, with ocean and sunsets right outside the door. There was a very convenient supermarket, farmer's market, and fish market, all within walking distance. The owner was very helpful, and took lots of time to make sure we had all the information we might need, and that everything was prepared for our arrival.

I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in paradise.

Recommended for: age 55+, families with young children, people with disabilities, families with teenagers

Owners response: We are thrilled that the property and your experience renting with us was everything you had hoped for. It was a pleasure working with you and we hope that you visit again soon. Many mahalos!

One of our Favorite Maui Stays

ShellandDamon (San Diego, CA)
Review submitted: January 5, 2012   Date of arrival: June 11, 2011

We stayed in this condo for our 2 year anniversary trip back to Maui and it was truly one of our favorite places (even surpassing some of the resorts we've been to). It's an amazing unit with gorgeous views that has you feeling like you have your very own "home away from home" on the island. Location lends to easy walking to stores, food, and the lovely Farmer's Market. Everyone around the area were so friendly and we met such nice people daily around the pool/BBQ area. The owners of the condo offer a complete binder in the unit for guests to read which is full of ideas and recommendations of things to do and places to visit on the island- we tried out several of them! We hope to stay here again come time for our next Maui trip.

Recommended for: families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sight seeing, tourists without a car, romantic getaway

Owners response: So glad you enjoyed your anniversary trip! It certainly is a perfect spot to reflect on happy times- and to create new ones. Aloha to you and your husband!

Magical Retreat

TheatreTeacher (Toronto)
Review submitted: December 29, 2011   Date of arrival: July 19, 2011

This was my first time to Hawaii and it will not be my last. I traveled solo, taking a much needed hiatus after a very hectic year and prior to touring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The condo is everything its advertised to be and more. It's conveniently located just a quick drive from Lahaina and steps away from the farmers' market and a more conventional grocery store. The complex is clean, secure and quiet; the unit itself is both comfortable and immaculate. The complex offered planned activities such as yoga and water aerobics around the pools and there is a beautiful long stretch of beach right next to the complex.

One of the added bonuses was communicating with the owner's daughter, Tami before I arrived. She went out of her way to be helpful and she recommended the best local restaurants, entertainment venues, and locally run tour groups so that I could take excursions such as the Road to Hana. Tami assured me that Maui is paradise and she was absolutely right.

I am already planning my next visit.

Recommended for: adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, romantic getaway

Owners response: Maui is a very special place and we're honored that we were part of that. It was a joy to share all my favorite haunts and secret spots with you. I hope that your next trip comes sooner rather than later. We'll be here. :)
