The Jan Thiel Country House estate, one and a half acres big, is situated at the bay of Jan Thiel. It offers a breathtaking view of the saline water and salt ponds that are home to countless flamingos. Easy to visit through your own admission gate, this wondrous surrounding is perfect for hiking and biking. You will find a variety of historical buildings on the terrain. Four of them, the country house itself excluded, are at your disposal.

The Coach House ('t Koetshuis): Originally a ‘magasina’ or salt storage house, the Koetshuis is entirely restored to its authentic exterior. This spacious house offers sleeping and living facilities for up to 8 guests. It consists of two separate areas. The main area holds the grand kitchen, suitable for comfortable dinners and general living. Right behind it you’ll find the magnificent master bedroom, all hardwood, complete with library and private balcony overlooking the salt ponds. Next to the main house, connected by a wide and wonderful living gallery, are three more rooms: two rooms for two guests and a suite for up to four. Within the gallery you’ll find a comfortable seating and large dinner table. Adding fun to comfort, the swimming pool is situated right in the Koetshuis’ backyard.

The Kunuku Hous and Rita's House: Kunuku Huisje (House) This is a fully renovated typical Curacao country house with a thatched roof. With a spacious kitchen/living/dining room and bedroom, this charming house offers accommodation to up to 4 guests. Open the doors to the large private terrace and enjoy the wonderful breeze and spectacular view. Amenities: Airconditioning in bedroom, double bed can be arranged as 2 single beds, Cable TV, Wifi, fully equipped kitchen, large sofa which converts into double-bed, ceiling fan in living area (mosquito net available), shower and lavatory. Rita's House Another wonderfully renovated country house, with a tiled roof and private, romantic porch from where to admire the gardens and sunset. Tropical bliss for up to 4 guests. Amenities: Airconditioning in bedroom, double bed can be arranged as 2 single beds, Cable TV, Wifi, fully equipped kitchen, large sofa which converts into a double bed, ceiling fan in living area (mosquito net available), shower and lavatory.

Tennis House: Formerly a tool shed, now a fully renovated wonderfully private house for 4 persons, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a spacious kitchen/living area. Enjoy the breezes that flow through the covered corridor which also holds the dining room table. Amenities: Airconditioning in bedrooms, each double bed can be arranged as 2 single beds, Cable TV, Wifi, fully equipped kitchen, Sofa, shower and lavatory and large covered corridor where you dine in the open.

Golf: There are 3 wonderful golf courses on Curacao. Blue Bay Golf Course, Hyatt, and Emmastad.

In comparison to other hiking areas, Jan Thiel is unique because of its variety - salt ponds, a lagoon, cliffs and panoramic views. There are different trails in the former plantations Jan Thiel (also called 'Damascus' or 'Damasco') Koraal Specht and Zuurzak (known locally as 'Sorsaka'). These trails are excellent for biking and walking and a good combination with a visit to the beach. You can also rent horses from the stables close to the plantation house. The Jan Thiel beach is also a good location for diving and snorkeling. At Jan Thiel beach there are several cafés, restaurants and shops and a diving/sailing center. Scuba divers and snorkelers can treat themselves to beautiful coral formations and sponges close to shore. all in all, a wonderful area for outdoor enthousiasts!
