vacation rental description

Welcome to our lovely home in Santa Fe.  Casa Viva is situated in the best of both worlds.  It is an easy walk to town, and it has mountain and sunset views.  At night you can see the twinkle of stars and Santa Fe city lights.  It takes just 10 minutes to walk from our front door to the Plaza and the many excellent galleries and shops and restaurants nearby. In 7 minutes you can walk to the Ft. Marcy Community Center and enjoy their outdoor playhground, indoor swimming pool and fully-equipped gym and variety of drop-in classes.  Fabled Canyon Road, the NM Museum, St. Francis Cathedral, the Capitol Rotunda, and a post office are all within walking distance.  We are very close to the De Vargas shopping center with it's fine movie house, Sprouts Farmer's Market an organic grocery store similar to Whole Foods but less expensive, and Albertson's grocery store and pharmacy and many other stores. Short easy drives will take you to the Santa Fe Opera, the mountains for skiing or trekking, the vibrant area colleges, and great local hiking places.  An idyllic area!

Our home is southwestern/contemporary, featuring adobe walls, vigas, kiva fireplace, mexican sinks and tile floors, Santa Fe style furniture and original art.  There are two entryways, one from the front patio and one from the garage.  The upper level has an airy, light-filled living room with a ceiling fan and airconditioning.  Off the living room is a deck with lovely views.  The dining room seats six and has a skylight.  Off the dining room area is another deck with views and a patio table with seating for four.  The kitchen, also with skylight, is fully equipped.  It has a gas stove, microwave, ice-maker, dishwasher, disposal, and purified water faucet.  There is a half-bath off the front hall.

Downstairs are two large bedrooms.  Each bedroom has a queen bed, ceiling fan, night tables and dresser, window shutters, large walk-in closet, and adjoining bathroom.  One bedroom has an additional closet plus a bathroom with a jacuzzi tub which looks out on a private patio plus separate shower, and the other bathroom has a shower without tub.  From each bedroom there is an exit to our charming enclosed patio/garden and its sculpture-chairs by artist R.C. Albin.  Off the master bedroom is a sitting-room/bedroom area with a twin organic bed and, if wanted, a crib.  The downstairs area also includes a washer and dryer and fully supplied linen closet.  Ideal for a family or two couples.

Wireless internet service is included, as is free long distance calling.  There is a large screen LCD TV with cable servie and a DVD player.

All Agreed--A Great place to Stay in Santa Fe

Review submitted: August 26, 2012   Date of arrival: July 17, 2012

I was part of two couples who shared this house. While we frequently do not all agree, it was unanimous that this house was the ideal choice. The whole house was spacious, tastefully furnished and included great art work inside and outside. The adobe fireplace and beautiful tile work added to a Southwestern feel. The kitchen was large and well stocked with dishes and utensils for cooking. Both bedrooms were large with comfortable beds and private baths. One had a Jacuzzi tub. The decks and patios were lovely allowing us to linger over breakfast to a mountain view or watch the sunset with a glass of wine.

One great thing about this house is that while it feels like it is out of the city , it is in very close proximity to the Plaza, shopping and excellent restaurants. So one day one couple could stay in town and walk to art galleries, museums and shops while the other could drive the rental car to hike in Bandolier or visit Taos. One night two of us cooked dinner with ingredients from the local farmer's market while two walked to the Plaza area for a gourmet dinner. And so it went. The only minus was that we did not stay long enough.

A Great Place to Stay in Santa Fe

Review submitted: August 22, 2012   Date of arrival: July 14, 2012

My partner and I stayed in this Townhouse in July with another couple.

It was an extremely good place to stay in Santa Fe. We had the bedroom with the Jacuzzi tub, with windows looking out to a nice patio. The upstairs had a lovely and spacious living room, very nice and functional kitchen, and a good dining room. There are also two balconies with good views, one with a table, both with chairs. We saw one of those gorgeous Santa Fe sunsets from both balconies.

One of the best features of this place is that you can walk to the downtown Plaza and lots of fine restaurants and Art Galleries. The weather was great while we were there, as it often is in Santa Fe--very dry air with cool nights and little rain. We did a lot of walking and exploring, with more art shops than you can imagine, some of them with art we really loved. We saw performances at the opera and the very high quality chamber music series, plus a voice recital in the Masonic Lodge. We also enjoyed many of the beautiful natural places available in the Santa Fe area.

I can't think of another place to stay that would have met our needs any better. The home also has all the Southwestern features that you would expect: lots of beautifully tiled floors and walls, adobe, a typical fireplace, etc. It is very light and airy and gives you a good feel of Santa Fe. We would certainly stay again.
