We were in heaven

We rented this cabin for our seventh anniversary. It's peaceful, clean and lots of options for activities. We used the Kayaks for a beautiful trip up the river. The only cabin around is up the lane but cannot be seen from cabin at all so complete privacy. We brought our own sheets, towels and pillow cases however pretty much everything else is there(no bathtub only shower if you go with little ones. Pots, pans, microwave, tv with use of dvd/vhs player, heater. We also traveled to Watertown which was a short scenic drive. Lots of shops and restaurants within close proximity. We will definitely return and hope that this will become a yearly retreat for us either alone or along with friends and family. The owner, caretaker and her husband are very polite and hospitable. 5 stars for a country cottage retreat.

Summer Secluded Family Fun!

What a wonderful place for a family vacation! We had two families (4 adults and 5 children) on this vacation and everyone enjoyed the multitude of activities. The teenagers were thrilled that they had signal on their phones but I have to say they only used them at night because we couldn't keep them off the rope swing and the kyacks during the day. When I asked our 10 year old what her favorite part of the vacation was she paused and then finally answered I just can't choose because everything was so much fun! However, I suspect that for my little nature lover it was the hours that she spent everyday catching frogs (there were literally hundreds of them). The fishing was great - I spent hours every day reeling them in!

The water in the river was surprisingly clear and clean which made swimming, kyacking and of course jumping from the rope swing very enjoyable.

The cottage was more than I expected and everyone enjoyed the character of the place! The kitchen was well outfitted which made feeding such a crew much easier on me. There were many board games and evening activities to wind down with. My son has confirmed that whoever owns the place has to be a man because "he has a dart board and there are holes in the wall and no one even cares"! The gentlemen of our group had a nightly checkers competition, they remain tied and have determined that a winner will need to be decided next year on a return trip.

Many great family memories were made and we can't wait to return :)

First and foremost EXCEPTIONAL CLEAN. The photos depict exactly what you get, a scenic and great camping experience for the family. It is secluded and quiet night & day, only one other camp in sight. Two canoes & two kayaks w/accessories are included with the rental.
My family of eight (four adults & four children)stayed at Camp Wegatchie the week July 4th. The house sleeps eight but the three room tent that comes with the rental provides a nice alternative for those who desire to ruff it. The main attraction for my family was the Oswegatchie River, canoeing, fishing, swimming, everyday. Walleye, small mouth bass, rock bass, and blue gill were caught, We saw pike but could not get them to bite.
Other activities we enjoyed within a 45 minute drive were the North Country Wine Tour, Old McDonald's Farm, Alexandria Bay on the St. Lawrence River for fireworks, and the Village of Clayton, also on the river.
Less than 10 miles from the camp is the Town of Gouvenor which has grocery stores, restaurants, hardware stores, local government, etc., and hospital, which we used one time for a minor reaction to a bug bite. Which brings me to the only down side, mosquetoes, deer & black flies. Insect repellent is a must.

Owners response: It's all about family time and making memories. This is simply a spectacular place to kayak, canoe, fish or just lounge in the shade of the old oak tree with a private sweeping view of the river. Bring your friends!
