activities and attractions in Acadia Maine

Acadia National Park: In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson set aside 6000 acres (within what is now Acadia National Park) as Sieur de Monts National Monument. With the acquisition of more land and private support and funding, in 1919 President Wilson signed an act establishing Lafayette National Park. In 1929 the parks name was changed to Acadia. Acadia National Park was established to protect the area's spectacular scenic values, Maine's rock bound coast, its coastal and its offshore islands as characterized by the geologic features, natural history and the native plant and animal life. Forty five miles of rustic carriage roads weave around the mountains and through the valleys of Acadia National Park, the gift of philanthropist John D Rockefeller, Jr., and family. Rockefeller, a skilled horseman, desired to travel on motor free byways via horse and carriage into the heart of Mount Desert Island. His efforts resulted in roads with sweeping vistas and close up views of the landscape.

Perfect Getaway in Maine

Review submitted: July 28, 2013   Date of arrival: July 28, 2012

Definitely the best property I've ever rented. Josh and Erica are so nice and make sure you feel welcome and have everything you need. I stayed here for a month and a half while working at the nearby hospital and got engaged on a small, undeveloped island in the middle of the lake. Kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming all summer long. Sit by the fire pit at night. The house is clean and comfy with ample space. Bar Harbor and the lobster pounds are an easy drive. Would love to return to this property in the future. Thanks Josh and Erica! 5 stars, easy.

Amazing vacation spot

Review submitted: July 22, 2013   Date of arrival: July 14, 2013

This beautiful, rustic cottage has everything you could ask for in a vacation home, it was better than we expected as it is very clean, well equipped with new washer and dryer, a working dish washer and 1 bathroom on each of the 3 floors and it is tastefully decorated throughout. The lot is beautifully landscaped and is located on the sunrise side of the lake, so you get sun all day long into the early afternoon. The water is extremely clean and very warm. We brought our own boat and kept it at the cottage's own dock all week, enjoying all kinds of water sports on the lake. At the end of the week, I could barely notice a water line on it. This speaks to the quality of the water in this pond. It also comes with all kinds of toys to play on the water, from kayaks, canoe to floats, skis and even a wakeboard. The owners are amazing, very friendly and approachable, making sure we had everything we needed to make our stay just perfect. The size of the lake is perfect too in our opinion and it doesn't get very busy so you can really enjoy your boat ride/ jet ski ride. It is easy to keep yourself supplied with all you need as Trade Winds, a local gas station / corner store is only minutes away. Bangor is only about a 15-20 min drive away which allowed us to dine out on occasion as well as do some shopping on a less sunny day. We absolutely loved our stay and will most definitely be renting it again next year.

Peaceful !

Review submitted: June 7, 2013   Date of arrival: May 31, 2013

Despite the rain during our entire stay, we truly enjoyed the peaceful surroundings of this cabin. Josh, the owner, was helpful in anyway he could be, including bringing his own grill over for us to use! The kids loved the easy access to the water, and the paddle boat was one of their favorites! Early kayak paddling , even in the mist with the loons, was so relaxing and tranquil. This was a very clean and comfortable get a away weekend for all!!
