activities and attractions in Colorado Springs Colorado
Go gambling in nearby Cripple Creek, or shop the antique shops (Nana's Attic, the Isis or Splendid Treasures) or the Victor Trading Company, where they make handmade brooms, candles, cookie cutters, etc. Hike through the Rocky Mountains or go fishing at the Skagway Reservoir (7 miles away). Tour the High Spice Alpaca Ranch on 4-Mile Drive or the Stage Stop Llama Ranch on County Road 1 in Florrisant. Horseback riding and river rafting down the Arkansas River is one hour away in Canon City. The Royal Gorge is also in Canon City. The ski resort of Breckenridge is 1 1/2 hours down the road and the drive is beautiful. Florisant is famous for their Fossil Beds and the Hornbeck homestead. Colorado Springs is one hour away and the Garden of the Gods park is a must-see, or tour the Cave of the Winds just south of Woodland Park. Don't forget to tour the Molly Kathleen Mine just outside Cripple Creek to see how the miners did it in the late 1800's. If you like antiquing, there are a multitude of antique shops in Florence, just a little over one hour away or in Old Colorado City, the same distance. Too much to do and see! Easy access in all directions. **Two of the roads toward Canon City are recommended only for four-wheel drive vehicles (Phantom Canyon and Shelf Road), as is the Gold Camp Road toward Colorado Springs. However, the scenery is gorgeous along these roads! Attend Donkey Derby Days June 25 and 26, Gold Rush Days July 15-17, and Victor Celebrates the Arts on Labor Day weekend.
