vacation rental description

This is our totally private custom 4-bedroom/3bath-luxury vacation
home, plus cane cottage with studio, on five tropically landscaped
acres. Whether you are just two enjoying your honeymoon or a whole
family of 10 celebrating an anniversary, you will love opening the
gate and driving down the long Ti lined drive to this special place
exclusive just for your party. Once inside our electric gate you
will pass two groves of coconut trees and see in the distance our
newly built cane cottage, all before you reach the house.
The ocean view from the large lanai of our Pole House is down a
splendid forested gorge. Music can be directed outside while you
languish in the pool/spa surrounded by tropical gardens lit by Tiki
torches. Try a game of croquet on the adjacent lawn, then perhaps a
nap in the hammock under two of our more than two hundred palms.
Pick some ginger, protea or heliconias for your table add guavas,
papaya and/or bananas, all just a few steps from the pool area. Take
a minute to enjoy the art throughout the house done by island
artists.
AMENITIES
The main living area of the house is ten feet up, supported by
telephone poles (AKA Pole House) We offer two king master bedroom
suites upstairs (one with its’ own lanai), The large living/dining
space has a complete home entertainment center including Tivo and a
video/DVD library with a comfortable sectional to curl up in and much
more. The kitchen is like no other. Our kitchen cabinets are all
solid Koa wood (now virtually unavailable), hand crafted by a local
cabinet maker/artisan. The kitchen is completely equipped, down to a
Cuisnart, sugar, flour and spices. Our bathroom cabinets are also of
an exotic wood – Purple Heart and the tile in the bath is hand
painted by a woman we commissioned. Outdoor relaxing/eating can be
done on the large Lanai. If you are suffering electronic withdrawal
or have possible business distractions, we have broadband Internet
with Wi/Fi, printer/scanner, fax and answering machine.
Downstairs is a complete two-bedroom/one bath apartment (never rented
separately) with two twins in the bedroom as well as a queen Murphy bed in
the living room. There is Satellite TV/VCR and a private patio.
Our Maui Vacation Home sleeps 8 people. With the futon sofa bed, the property
accommodates 10.
HIGHLIGHTS
Our blue tiled pool and connecting tiled spa are a perfect place to
spend your afternoon and evening, or to swim those laps you have been
promising yourself. (Swim suit or not – your choice) The pool area
and surrounding gardens are professionally landscaped with tropicals,
ferns and palms providing total privacy. The trade winds come up in
the afternoon, so that air conditioning is never needed. Most people
tell us that once they have settled in, it is very hard to leave and
do all that sightseeing they had planned. They find they prefer
relaxing and enjoying the property.
This property is truly magic; it has been in our family for ninety
years. Ron’s grandmother homesteaded thirty acres, which has long
ago been bisected by the Hana Highway. We purchased these 5 acres
from Ron’s father in the early 70’s, built the house in 1985. The
bottom apartment was completed in 1994. The Cane Cottage in 2005.
Recently, we completely updated the house in anticipation of making
it available to the vacationer who might we looking for privacy and
luxury in a beautiful tropical setting. Renting this way, allows us
to use the house ourselves when we choose, to be able to pursue our
farming interests on the land and still meet our mainland family
commitments.

$30 per night up to a maximum of 10 people in the house. There is a cleaning charge of $175 for the upper house only. The whole house is $250,

having a great time every minute since we got here and most of the
time we don't even want to leave the house. What else is there
really?"

house rental amenities

When we say a luxury pole house, we are describing a custom, wood
sided, multi windowed, metal roofed home where the main living area
is ten feet up supported by telephone poles. This affords views of
the ocean and a rear view of the crater.
This was our primary residence for six years. The house sits on the
edge of a scenic gorge that ends at the sea. Our view is wonderful.
You drive beside a pineapple field to reach our gate, passing a field
of tapioca, and two groves of coconuts before reaching the house. We
do have neighbors but they are hidden by the extensive landscaping.
Our blue tiled pool and connecting tiled spa are a perfect place to
spend your afternoon and evening or to swim those laps you have been
promising yourself. You can choose to read a book in the hammock
under the guava tree. The pool area and surrounding gardens are
professionally landscaped with tropicals, ferns and palms providing
total privacy. The trades come up in the afternoon so that air
conditioning is never needed.
The upper part of the house includes a large living/dining room,
master bedroom/bath, a second master bedroom/bath with a private deck
and a large deck/Lanai with a gas barbecue and outside stereo
speakers. There is a 36-inch Sony TV on a satellite, a VCR, DVD and
stereo.
Because we realize that it is important in today's world to be able
to conduct business wherever we are, there is a large desk area in
the master bedroom. You will find an Epson printer(compatible for
both Mac and PC), a fax machine/copier and of course, an answering
machine. There is a separate line for fax and modem.
The kitchen is like no other. Our kitchen cabinets are all Koa wood
hand crafted by a local cabinet maker/artist. The kitchen is fully
equipped. (blender, Cuisinart, coffee grinder, etc.) The bathroom's
cabinets are Purple Heart Wood and the tile is hand painted
The ground level part of the house has an efficiency kitchen, a
living room which opens onto a terrace that looks out over the fields
and groves. There is a bedroom/bath with two twin beds. In the living
room is a high quality queen size Futon. There are also a TV and VCR
here with a separate receiver to the satellite. The upstairs bedrooms
both have king size beds. The house accommodates a maximum of ten
people. T

activities and attractions in Haiku Maui

If you like to walk, try heading down our driveway to the dirt road,
turn left through the pineapple field down to the cow pasture at the
ocean edge. You then climb over the barb wire fence and follow the
path down to the beautiful rock beach on a private cove or just
settle down on the bluff at the edge of the Pacific with a good
bottle of wine. If you prefer, walk the other way, cross the Hana
Highway and walk up the hill to the Pauwela Cafe for a Latte or
lunch.

If you have the yen to swim at the beach, head back to Paia and
Baldwin Beach or Baby Beach at Sprecklesville, be sure to leave time
to watch the windsurfers at Hookipa. If swimming in a pool beneath a
waterfall has more appeal head toward Hana for about 10 minutes until
you reach mile marker 15, park, and hike up to Twin Falls.
Golf courses abound on Maui. The majority of the well-known courses
are to be found at Wailea or at Kanapali, both over an hour away.
However, there are public courses in Kahalui and Pukalani. The
closest course to the house is at Maui Country Club in
Sprecklesville. It is a private club. It also has tennis courts. You
would need to contact them directly to see if play was possible?
Eating is a big past time on Maui. Mamas' Fish House one of the best
anywhere is just five miles away. (Expensive but worth it) Paia has
good restaurants aplenty. We have three cafes in Haiku and three
small groceries. And then there are all the others we tell you about
on our bulletin board.

Blown Away

Truss (Alberta, Canada)
Review submitted: March 6, 2009   Date of arrival: February 11, 2009

Our group of six adults were blown away by this beautiful property. Words and pictures can never come close to our experience.
Thanks for allowing us into your home.

Owners response: It is very flattering to see a review that speaks to the concept that "your picture does not do you justice". Our caretakers do an amazing job of keeping the property in an awesome state.

great house

VRBORORG273593 (menlo park, ca)
Review submitted: January 8, 2012   Date of arrival: December 18, 2011

large, beautiful house with architectural detailing, great furnishings, and big pool. great arboretum setting. landlord is a good guy, easy to work with, and caretakers are a lovely couple. setting is 10 minutes past paia (fish market, flatbread pizza, cafe des amis, mana foods) and therefore convenient for trips to hana, haleakala, and the kahului movies. we love this house but you should know beforehand that this is not sunny, calm (touristy) kaanapali. you are on the windward, rainy side of the island. you need a car here.

Recommended for: families with teenagers, sight seeing

Owners response: This was John's 4th Christmas at the pole house.

Second trip to Maui

Molly (Oregon)
Review submitted: December 2, 2011   Date of arrival: November 13, 2011

We just completed our second stay at this vacation rental. The home is very well kept and clean, and the addition and remodel only added to our enjoyment (completed in Nov. 2011). The household furnishings are of very good quality. Pictures do not do justice to the beautiful garden and pool area. We purposely spent at lot of time at the house, enjoying the spa, pool, and swaying in the hammock! This part of the island is very peaceful and quiet and if that is what you are looking for I highly recommend staying here. A great (and uncrowded) beach is just about 10 minutes drive away. We found several restaurants in the area (Haiku and Paia) that we frequented when we did not cook at the house. Also close is a good, well stocked natural food store (similar to Whole Foods, which is also in Kahului). The caretakers were available for questions, but also discreet and unseen unless we called them. We enjoy telling our friends about the Maui Pole House and highly recommend it.

Owners response: Nice to see you stayed close to home. There is no better way to relax than to stay in the area and off of the roads. I am glad you liked the remodel
