vacation rental description

**Book now for the 2012 tarpon season**

Located on a broad saltwater canal in picturesque Charlotte County in Southwest Florida, the home is located at the point where the Peace River flows into Charlotte Harbor forming one of the most pristine estuaries in the state. This unique confluence holds an amazing degree of vitality and biodiversity. You'll be able to watch schools of mullet, tarpon, snook, other game fish, and even Manatees as they ply the waterways. And imagine your delight as you spy the enormous variety of crabs and other shellfish scurrying over the flats during low tide. You'll see stingrays silently patrol the bottom as the tide gently rolls back in a constant rhythm of life.

Port Charlotte is indeed a boater's paradise. You can travel up the Peace River on a pontoon or deck boat for a relaxing view of the mangrove and palm tree forests while enjoying the spectacle of Great Blue and White Herons, Glossy Ibis and even an occasional Bald Eagle. We invite you to check out the Peace River Audubon Society for detailed lists of the birds known to frequent the region. With direct access to Charlotte Harbor, the Boca Grande Pass, world renowned for its sport fishing, the Intercoastal Waterway and the Gulf Mexico are only 55 short minutes away by water.

You'll have everything you need to thoroughly experience a coastal vacation. There is a 115' seawall that spans the entire backyard. A new 10' x 20' dock provides a great platform for fishing or getting that perfect tan. And bring your boat as we have provided a powerful boat lift that can handle vessels up to 28' long and 10,000 lbs. If you don't have your own, a boat can easily be rented on a daily or weekly basis at nearby Punta Gorda.

We have carefully preserved the original charm of the house while completely remodeling it to include a host of modern conveniences. Designer porcelain tile creates a floor which is cool to the touch. It is fully furnished with brand new rattan island themed casual furniture with extra comfy cushions. It boasts an updated kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances including a side-by-side refrigerator with water and ice dispenser, dishwasher, electric range and microwave. There are dozens of gourmet cooking utensils on hand in the large kitchen. But DON'T bring your toaster or coffeemaker as both of these, along with a Wolfgang Puck Gourmet Food Processor, are provided for your convenience. There is plenty of storage available in the abundant Shaker-style cabinets where you'll find a full set of china, flatware, glasses, and even wine glasses. We even provide a complimentary bottle of wine to get your vacation off to a running start.

Dining can be as casual or as formal as you wish. You and your guests can grab a quick breakfast at the granite counter bar. Or you can repair to the glass-topped dining table in the breakfast nook for a bit more formal dining experience. For the ultimate in casual dining, cook up some nice steaks - or your catch of the day - on the stainless steel infrared gas grill and sit down to eat at the large outdoor dining table on the spacious concrete patio. But make sure you grill enough as the patio set seats eight!

Relax and enjoy a good book while reclining on the loveseat or sofa in the Sun Room. No need to fight over these though, as three extra cushy swivel rocking chairs are stationed there as well. This room is air conditioned but is surrounded on two sides by sliding windows providing a magnificent view of the canal. Views of the sunset from here are to die for. And you can top off an evening by turning on the rope ceiling lighting for creating just the right mood for a romantic evening.

We think you will be impressed with the technical infrastructure as well. Three high resolution (1080p) HDTVs are provided. The house is wired with fast (1GB) ethernet as well as an 802.11g wireless (Wi-Fi) network supporting burst mode for gaming and fast downloads. The Media Room boasts a huge 50" internet-ready TV with over 140 high definition channels. Or, you can sit back and enjoy a movie in the Sun Room from the extensive DVD library provided. If you must work, a desk and chair can be found in the living room. But we are sure that the view from the work area will keep this distraction to a minimum!

We are serious about making your vacation relaxing. So we spared no expense in outfitting the queen beds in both Bedrooms with extremely comfortable mattresses adorned with luxurious linens. These beds will rival some the best hotel beds you have slept on.

Two full Bathrooms can accommodate a houseful of guests. A full complement of bath towels and accoutrements are provided.

Now with a rental property like this, you would expect a full laundry facility. And indeed both a clothes washer and dryer are provided in the laundry room. But we went the extra mile and even provided three fishing poles, reels and tackle so that you could see what's biting whenever the urge bites you!

Tired of relaxing? No problem. Boat down to Punta Gorda and enjoy live music just about every evening. Downtown Punta Gorda is a center for festivals, concerts and other local events all of which highlight the local cuisine. You will not be disappointed. You are minutes away from I-75 where you can drive 30 minutes north to Sarasota or south to Fort Myers. If the kids come down for a visit, why not plan a trip to nearby Busch Gardens in Tampa (2 hours with traffic)? Or take off to visit the legendary Disney World or Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando only 3 hours away.

Vacations can be many things. Sadly, most vacations are merely retreats from the stresses of modern life. But we are convinced that should you decide to spend time at our home, your vacation will be much more than a mere retreat. It will be the stuff of dreams.

Where did the two weeks go?

Mike J. ()
Review submitted: June 10, 2013   Date of arrival: May 11, 2013

A really great 2 weeks. Thanks for the use of your home. I have been home another 2 weeks and I'm still sad to be away. The property is in top condition and spotlessly clean. There is EVERYTHING you could possibly need to help you with your stay, even a few spare batteries!

The location is an excellent balance of quiet and close to most ameneties. The neighbours make you feel like you're part of the community rather than a vacationer as well. The fishing outside the house made it difficult to motivate oneself to explore the local area, but please do it's worth the effort! There a real variety of wildlife available without leaving the garden, including regular swim pasts from the Manatee population.

Finally a big thankyou to the owners, Mark and Anette. They answered my consistent questions before booking and before arriving quickly, politely and always positively. Previous experience with property owners has been uninspiring at best! These guys made the whole process a breeze. Next time I'm in the area this is where I hope to stay!!

Owners response: Mike,

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are thrilled that you enjoyed yourself and that the fishing was good! We also appreciate your generous "donation" of fishing gear for the next guests!

We really appreciate your staying with us and look forward to seeing you again. Who knows, maybe next time you will be able to hook that tarpon!

Warm regards,

Mark and Annette

Absolutely marvelous place in a wonderful setting

Review submitted: June 1, 2013   Date of arrival: January 1, 2013

Mark and Annette are a wonderful support team.

We liked Peace River Seafood and Harborview Seafood on 41. We also liked Sharks and ate there as well.

We'd recommend the airboat swamp tour in Immokalee, the harbor tour in Punta Gorda, the harbor tour in Sarasota...

We caught over 70 crabs off the dock and once two horshoe crabs! Old with barnacles. I've never seen them alive and they date back to prehistoric times and their shells are usually found on beaches. We placed them back in the water very carefully.

Another "first" was seeing two manatees down in the Everglades. There is a local gator who appears every now and then in our canal. He (or she) is about 10-12 feet long - we named him "Sam". A small bunny - dark gray - lives nearby and likes the front yeard a lot. And there is also a resident Bobcat which the neighbors have seen.

The tides are fascinating - and we have a little blue heron who claims our seawall as his (or her) place to watch for fish.

We enjoyed Laishley's Crab House restaurant and shopping in Fisherman's Village. And there are art sales everywhere!

We walked in the parks along the ocena in Puta Gorda and Port Charlotte and wandered out on the fishing piers.

People everywhere are friendly. Mark had wonderful recommendations for us ranging from restaurants to "Fishin' Franks". He's on target with all of them.

All in all - this is a wonderful place to be. Our three months have flown.

Thank you Mark and Annette for providing such a wonderful home.
