Enjoy a getaway in this quaint and private mountain home surrounded by Aspens next to a roaring creek.
Nestled high in the Rockies in the historic town-site of Garfield, The 1st Chair Chalet is just 3 miles to Monarch Mountain Skiing, 16 miles to historic downtown Salida, and walking distance to Monarch Lodge's amenities.
This cozy 2 story, 2 bedroom, 2 bath chalet sits by the the South Fork of the Arkansas River with private fishing access. The creek cascades and eddies through the back yard creating a mesmerizing visual and sonic landscape enjoyable from the redwood deck and private hot tub.
Sleeps 5 to 7 with 1 queen in an upstairs bedroom, 1 full and 1 twin in another upstairs bedroom, and 1 full futon sofa in the living room. A toddler sleeper is also available.
Garfield, CO (also known as Monarch), elevation 9500', is six miles east of the Continental Divide surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest. Garfield originated as a mining town in the early 1800's. In the latter part of the century a fire swept through town leaving only 3 original buildings, The School House, a log cabin and the Courthouse/Jail which is now known as the Old Timer Cabin. Scattered throughout the area you will find foundations of original mining cabins from 200 years ago.

Winter time, enjoy fresh tracks for days! One of the largest annual snow falls and small crowds pair to make the Monarch area a powder hound's paradise. Ski, Snowboard, Cross-Country, Back Country, Snow Shoe, Snowmobile…it's all just outside the door.
Monarch Mountain is a family friendly Ski area with low ticket prices, on-site rentals, ski school, ski shop, and overnight ski tuning plus a great bar/restaurant, cafeteria, and a Starbucks! For the more extreme, they have hike-to expert terrain and snowcat tours.
Across the street is Monarch Snowmobile Tours and a national forest full of great high-alpine trails and roads.
In the warm weather enjoy epic hikes, world-class mountain biking, award-winning Fishing, motorcycling, ATV, and Jeep tours. The 4X4 road starts here, maps provided. One of the nation's top Mountain Bike trails, The Monarch Crest Trail, as well the Monarch Crest Scenic Tramway, and the Great Divide Trail start at the top of the pass, 4 miles away.
Less than an hour away are 5 Hot Springs resorts, a dozen whitewater rafting companies, numerous bike rentals, countless Galleries, 2 whitewater play parks, and a Super Wal-Mart, plus Live music, nightlife, Sports Bar, Movies and more.
