It was where the groundwork was laid for surfing contests in Hawaii and all over the world. As opposed to the North Shore of Oahu where the surf is also renowned, one does not have to contend with traffic in Makaha from tourist buses and crowds. Makaha is still untouched and the perfect destination for visitors who want to experience the Hawaii of long ago, while still being on the same island where all of the top restaurants and shops are.
