vacation rental description

Our hand built log and stone home is in central Roaring Fork Valley, a little closer to Aspen than Glenwood Springs. We have stunning views of the Rocky Mountains. Our home has a cozy, rustic feel, with incredible opportunities for recreation. Amenities include a wood stove, a porch with hammocks, a fire pit in the front yard, a wood burning sauna in the back, a community swimming pool and tennis court in the summer, and cross country skiing, hiking or biking right from the door.

We're on the edge of a subdivision, but we have a very rural feel, with preserved open space to the north, east and south. We're on three acres, but it feels much larger because of the open space in three directions. We're perched three miles above the highway (so there's easy access to shopping and local communities, with a great bus system connecting the valley), with inspiring views of the mountains. Wildlife abounds, with sightings of deer, fox, coyote, elk and many birds. The weather is often delightful, with warm (not hot) summers and snowy winters -- definitely distinct seasons. We're about a half hour from the ski slopes of Aspen or the hot springs and other attractions of Glenwood Springs.

The sauna is available all year, and after heating up you can jump in the snow in the winter, or in a small stream in the summer.  The community pool and hot tub are little used, so often it's like a private pool.  You can enjoy the cultural and recreational activities of the valley, and then rest and relax with the amenities in and around our home.

You can see more photos on our home exchange  listing 205637.

The bedrooms are laid out as follows:

Master bedroom has a queen bed and a small outside deck

Bedroom 2 has a queen bed and a tree fort (yes, you have to climb a tree) with a twin mattress in it.  Children should probably be at least 5 or 6 to use this bed.

Bedroom 3 has a queen bed and a sleeping loft with a twin mattress that's accessed by a ladder.

Bedroom 4 is our guest room / study.  It has a queen fold out couch / bed -- but it's high quality (made by American Furniture with a three platform design instead of the metal bars) and is just as comfortable as the other beds.  This room also has a large screen TV.

Cozy home with magnificant views

Review submitted: February 22, 2012   Date of arrival: January 12, 2012

The house and the owners are delightful. The owners are 100% accurate in the description of the property - the view of the Rocky Mountains is stunning, gorgeous,breathtaking...there is no better way to wake up and start the day. Sadly one has to leave this cozy rustic house to enjoy all the wonderful activities offered in this valley.

We skied Snowmass (30 min drive) - my daughters favourite downhill skiing in the whole world! Roaring Fork buses provide a great service also.
I did some very scenic hikes in the area. Peter and Kate were so helpful in providing maps and trail information.

The small towns of Basalt and Carbondale are nearby and should not be missed. The Library in Basalt is new and it overlooks the Roaring Fork River. When you need a day off from skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, take yourself off to this Library for a relaxing day. Avalanche Ranch, near Redstone had wonderful Hot Springs and is certainly worth a visit.

The house is about a 6 minute drive to the City Market in El Jebel. We picked up all our food supplies here as it is cheaper than Aspen. This area also has some good restaurants. We ate at an Asian and Mexican and both were very good.

Wildlife does abound, in fact the deers came very close to the house. My daughter could not stop taking photo's.

We would certainly recommend this house to others. The hand built log and stone home is warm and relaxing and a nice place to return after a hard day skiing. Thank you Kate and Peter. Hope we can return one day.
