We arrived early for our two week honeymoon, so the cleaners were finishing a very thorough job of sanitizing the home and the linens. This house has charm and is warm and cozy. Some of the decorations are a bit different for our taste but all in all it's ok. The house has tons of natural light and a good heating and cooling system. The beds are ok, it took several nights to find out which bed was best for us to sleep in. Almost like the three bears one was too soft for us, one too, hard for us and the other was just right and we awoke refreshed and without back ache. I thought the location was good but the parking is tight and getting in and out is a bit of trouble. everything in the house works perfectly and having the dishwasher was so convenient. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at 6 Ambrose Alley and will absolutely stay here again. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. He made every effort to help us. I must say I was very pleased with the whole experience.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed with this property. I wouldn't say it was in the historic district...more in the college district. Although we walked everywhere, it was a trek to the actual historic district. Although not the fault of the owner, the photos made it look considerably larger than it is. On the upside, it was very clean and well kept, and it was nice to have the place to ourselves. I wouldn't call the furniture "antiques", just old stuff, in my opinion. Very overpriced, as well. I felt I could have stayed in a more modern place closer to the historic district for the same price. The ambiance of staying in a "historic" house was not worth it to me, but I suppose it depends on your taste. Some would probably enjoy it, but it was not my experience.

Owners response: Hmmmmm, having been in the B&B business for 10 years, I'm used to getting bad feedback from the people that expect the most. If you go out of your way to try and accommodate someone you usually get bit. All I can say is read my other reviews and my 14 year guestbook.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ambrose Cottage. It was decorated lovely and so warm and inviting. It's central location was very convenient for site seeing and dining. The proprieter was very nice and provided us with all sorts of options for touring and dining with discounts and coupons included. I would highly recommend this for those wanting a more intimate experience in Charleston.
