condo rental amenities
This is a fully furnished and equipped condo. No need to take anything other than your clothes and food! It includes a flat screen TV (satellite service), dvd player, stereo, WIFI and a/c. We provide a large water bottle upon your arrival and the caretaker sells them for a few dollars thereafter, if needed. The courtyard includes a pool, a shaded picnic area (palapa), BBQ and lounge chairs.
Also, we can provide you with a cell phone (loaded with 100 pesos), with our caretaker's phone number programmed, just in case. It will cost 150 pesos for the duration of your stay.
Getting there is easy. From your home fly to Houston and from Houston
it is about a 2 hour flight to Merida airport. Then you can rent a car at the
airport as driving around this city is easy. The roads are numbered
East to West in even numbers and North to South in odd numbers. A
taxi ride from Merida airport is your alternative. Taxi is roughly $50. (Ask before you get in the car just to make sure you are fine with the amount).
Or if you are a bit more adventurous, you can rent a car from Cancun Int'l airport and drive on the Cuota road (toll hwy approx. $35/one way) to Merida and then go north to Progreso, using the Periferico (please check a map for exact directions). We are located on Hwy 27 at calle 31.
activities and attractions in Progreso Yucatan
Check this website - yucatan today - a publication written by expats living in Merida and surrounding areas. It is full of information about the area!
Merida and the Yucatan region is a very safe environment. Merida was declared the safest city in Mexico and the 2nd in the world a few years ago. The crime rate is almost nonexistent. Non violent petty theft is one of the most common occurrences. So as long as you don't leave your valuables in plain view and unsecured, you most likely would never experience theft.
Progreso is a port/old fishing village of approx. 40,000 people. The Malecon is a beach side stretch of road with numerous restaurants and stores. It is about 1.6km from our condo. You can walk to it on the beach/street or take any bus (inexpensive) going to Progreso downtown.
10 km north is a Mayan ruins site named Dzibilchaltun worth visiting.
Just 20 minutes south of Progreso you will find Merida, a large city of just under $1M people. The city centre (Centro) is full of culture, colonial and Mayan architecture, markets, theatres, restaurants, hotels etc. It is very vibrant!
